18,000kg rated pulley ring. Run your line through it, back to a recovery point on your own vehicle, and you've roughly halved the load on your winch while doubling your effective pull.

It also changes your pull angle - which is often the thing that actually gets you out.

What actually belongs in a recovery kit 🧰

Get this wrong and you're either carrying dead weight or you're stuck. The honest list:

• A rated soft shackle (or two) - lighter and safer than steel
• A sn**ch strap matched to your vehicle weight
• A tree trunk protector - never wrap bare rope around a trunk
• A pulley ring if you run a winch
• Gloves. Always gloves.
• A damper blanket over the line

What you don't need: a boot full of gear you've never practised with. Buy less, know it better.
