Fresh out of the Mills-Tui workshop for HES Earthmoving — this new 4-axle steel bathtub ejector trailer has been built specifically for the tough stuff.

Designed as a rock-spec body, it features a seriously heavy-duty Hardox wear package, 5mm side sections and a 6mm floor, heavy duty rear posts giving it the strength and abrasion resistance needed for hard, demanding loads.

Instead of tipping, the ejector system uses a heavy-duty double-acting Delta ram to drive the moving sled through the body, pushing the load out the rear. That means controlled unloading without needing to raise the bin — a big advantage when working on uneven ground or where overhead clearance is limited.

🔥 **BUILT FOR THE UNDERGROUND** 🔥

A little different from the usual fire appliance build for the Mills-Tui team — this one has been designed specifically for OceanaGold and the Waihi Mine Extension Project.

Built on an Iveco Eurocargo 4x4, this appliance had to meet the specialised requirements of an underground mining environment. We worked closely with an Australian mine rescue consultant to develop a unit capable of supporting both fire response and mine rescue operations. Wheelbase length was critical to be able to navigate the tunnels in the mine and Iveco Eurocargo 4x4 ticked the box here.

Some of the key equipment includes:

🚒 **3,000 litre water tank**
🔥 **200 litre foam tank and proportional foam system**
💦 **Gaam MK450 firefighting pump**
🎯 **Tornado front-mounted monitor**, remotely controlled from the cab
🧯 **Twin hose reels** with 30m and 60m hoses
📊 **TankVision monitoring** for both water and foam levels
🚨 Comprehensive Whelan emergency and work lighting package for underground operation
🧰 Six equipment lockers with dedicated storage for **mine rescue gear, SCSR/SCBA/BA equipment and other emergency response equipment**

There’s been plenty of engineering, plumbing, electrical work and detail involved in bringing this one together — and a fair bit of learning for our team along the way as we adapted our fire appliance experience to the underground mining environment.

A seriously capable piece of emergency response equipment, and another great example of what can be achieved when we get the opportunity to engineer something a little outside the ordinary.

🪵🪵🪵Another **Bin-In Billet Unit** completed for the fleet of **Rob Dahm Limited of Tokoroa**.🪵🪵🪵

We’ve built a number of these units for the Rob Dahm team over the years, and with each build we’ve continued to refine and improve the design.

This latest unit incorporates a number of upgrades, including an **improved hydraulic tail door locking system**, cleaner and improved hydraulic plumbing completed by Total Hydraulics along with several general design improvements throughout the build.

The body itself is built from **Hardox HX500**, with further changes made to the body design to improve an already well-proven setup.

It’s great to see another evolution of these units roll out of the Mills-Tui workshop — taking what we’ve learnt from previous builds and continuing to make them better.

A great piece of New Zealand transport history here.

This Kenworth tractor unit set up was built for Wayne Ballins of Combined Haulage and is believed to be the second of two trucks built for the company.

Many will remember these trucks wearing the unmistakable L&P colours — a combination that made them pretty hard to miss on the road and helped make them well-known trucks of their era.

Here she is pictured outside the Mills-Tui factory, looking fresh and ready for work.

There’s plenty of history tied up in photos like this, and we know a few of our followers will remember these trucks well.
