The Legend of Quinn & Mary
Quinn was a proper Tay Street legend — the sort of bloke who’d surf the Mount before most people had even had their first coffee.
One Saturday night he took his missus Mary to a Six60 gig. Mary, naturally, had gone hard on the fake tan — glowing like a fresh kumara under the lights.
The concert was an absolute banger. At some point during the singalong, Mary launched herself onto Quinn’s shoulders and stayed there, arms waving, living her best life. What no one realised was her tan hadn’t fully set. By the time they got home, the stuff had cured like industrial-strength glue, and the pair were stuck together tighter than a yarn at the local.
Problem was, the surf doesn’t wait.
So at 6am the next morning, with clean lines rolling into Tay Street, Quinn did what any committed legend would do — waxed up, paddled out, and hit the waves with Mary still firmly attached to his back, snorkel on, arms in the air, absolutely sending it.
A local snapped the moment.
And from that glorious bit of coastal chaos, Buttsnorkeler was born:
