Guy Chester has crossed the finish line at Southport aboard his Crowther Design 93 trimaran Oceans Tribute, finishing the 2026 Solo Trans-Tasman Yacht Challenge in 19:34. He is the first boat home, taking overall Line Honours in a time of 6 days 7 hours 34 minutes and 36 seconds.

Chester sailed more than 1,450 nautical miles across the Tasman, alone, in conditions he described as among the worst he has ever experienced. Hail, lightning, 45-knot squalls, and seas that had him on two reefs and a staysail just to keep the boat moving. He arrived at Southport safe, tired, desperate for coffee, and he nailed it.

Congratulations, Guy. Well sailed.

Guy Chester described last night as "wet, salty, lumpy — it rained seals and walruses." He's 97 miles out. Oceans Tribute finishes tonight.

Vixen Racing had hail the size of golf balls at 4am. Le Poideven survived 50-knot squalls and zero sleep. Ben Ball is still not sunbathing.

Six days in. The Tasman is still giving everything it has.

47 knots. No warning. Middle of the night.

Sharon Ferris-Choat got hit hard on Vixen Racing overnight — bore away, lost the J2, sorted it out, wind died. Back to square one. "It's bloody freezing too."

Meanwhile Guy Chester is 267 miles from Southport. The race was on Seven Sharp last night. And the tracker went down this morning.

Just another day on the Tasman.

Bill Kidman is home safe in Opua. Glen Jeffery isn't far behind.

Out on the Tasman, Guy Chester is 334 miles from Southport. Sharon Ferris-Choat got hit by a cloud, lost all her wind, and spent the day fighting back. Ben Ball bailed half a ton of water out of his cabin this morning and called it his own fault. Terry Dunn is running out of tea bags.

This race. Honestly.

After four days alone at sea, the Solo Trans-Tasman fleet has run straight back into the weather. Lightning storms. Gusts into the high 30s. Boats slamming into steep seas. Yet somehow the humour, determination and sheer grit of these sailors keeps shining through.

Another retirement from the 2026 Solo Trans-Tasman Yacht Challenge. The sailor is safe and well and making his own way home.
Three down from the original 15. The Tasman doesn't negotiate.
All available details (and more as they become available) are at the link below, including the latest on the 12 still racing and a corrected-time lead that is changing by the hour.

A quieter day on the Tasman — but don't look away. Oceans Tribute, Vixen Racing and Electron have passed halfway. Tonight, more of the fleet will join them.

More wind is coming. Not the extremes of North Cape, but tired skippers and a tricky entry into Southport have a way of making 25 knots feel like a lot more. Then there's those time gaps, so so close. Sarau leads the monos on handicap by 12 minutes. Twelve minutes after 79 hours.

Then there's the multihulls. There is nothing boring about this race. Keep watching.
