10 minutes of idling a day = more than 40 hours a year burning fuel going nowhere.

For a heavy diesel vehicle, that’s around 2 litres an hour straight out of the tank. When fuel is pushing $3.40+ a litre, the small habits start to matter a lot more.

A few simple numbers fleet managers are paying attention to right now:
🚗 Idling: switch off if stopped for more than 3 minutes (EECA guidance)
🏎 Speed: dropping from 100 km/h to 90 km/h can cut fuel use by up to 7% for light
vehicles and around 20% for heavy vehicles
💨 Tyre pressure: every 5 psi under-inflated adds about 1% to fuel consumption
🔧Maintenance: well-maintained vehicles can use 10–20% less fuel

None of this is new.
But at today’s fuel prices, the maths is very different.

Five things that genuinely make a difference to your fuel bill:
👉 Drop from 100 km/h to 90 km/h. Up to 7% saving on a light vehicle, more on a heavy one.
👉 Switch off if you’re stopped for more than 3 minutes. Idling costs add up fast.
👉 Check tyre pressures. Every 5 psi underinflated = 1% more fuel.
👉 Stay on top of servicing. Well-maintained vehicles use 10–20% less fuel.
👉 Plan trips. Combine errands.

Together, these basics can stretch a tank by up to 20%.
