FRIENDS. PLEASE DONT BE SUCKERED IN .They have already sucker in 1.7 thousand people 🤦🏻♀️
This is doing the rounds. Its NOT genuine. Please dont put all your friends at risk by tagging the with “a highlight”.
Scam competition. Which requires you to "@ highlight" or "tag all your friends" work by using social media features to spread a fraudulent post rapidly and widely through users' networks, in order to harvest personal information or gain followers to sell.
The Scam Mechanism
Initial Hook: Scammers create fake pages or posts offering an unbelievable prize (e.g., a luxury holiday, a new gadget, or a campervan).
User Amplification: The post asks users to comment using the "@ highlight" feature or tag a number of friends to enter or gain "extra entries". The "highlight" feature in particular notifies all of the user's friends to look at that post, exposing the scam to a massive, extended audience that may trust the source because a friend posted it.
Gaining Credibility/Followers: As more people participate, the post gains visibility, comments, and shares, making the fake page appear legitimate and popular to new visitors.
The Phishing/Data Theft Stage:
Once a user is identified as a "winner" (often via direct message), they are directed to a fake website or asked to provide personal details via a chat function.
This website/message might ask for sensitive information like their full name, address, phone number, or even banking/credit card details to cover "shipping" or "registration" fees.
The primary goal is: to harvest personal data for identity theft or fraudulent charges.
Monetization:
The scammers may also use the large, engaged audience they've built to promote other scams or sell the social media page to other bad actors.
The user information collected can also be sold on the dark web.
Warning Signs
The offer seems too good to be true. NO company will give away a free car or a 100 brand new bikes.
The page is new, has no verified badge, and doesn't sell anything outside the competition.
There are no clear terms and conditions for the draw, such as a drawing date.
The page asks for payment or credit card details to claim a prize.
You are asked to go to a separate website to "register" or "claim".
The best course of action is to ignore, report, and block these posts to protect yourself and your network.
