MANUAL SHORT SHIFTER MOD

One of the most straight forward (if you don’t stuff it up like I did!) mods for your manual Version R.

Using a 2002-2003 Mini Cooper shifter from AliExpress, this mod completely transforms the C**t shifter resulting in precise shorter throws between all gears.

Tools required:
10mm socket (or Philips screwdriver)
2x flat head screwdrivers (smaller head will really help)
14mm (apparently) open-ended spanner

How-to:
1. Remove the gear k**b by unscrewing
2. Remove the 5x 10mm bolts holding the centre console to the car (the plastic panel under the handbrake pops up to expose 2x bolts)
3. Remove the cable from the bottom of the shifter by pushing the entire cable end off using the 14mm spanner. DO NOT PRY THE PLASTIC CASING/CABLE END APART!
4. Remove the grey plastic circlip retainer from the horizontal axis shifter pin/rod. This is done by spreading the little clips while applying pressure away from the rod (towards passenger side)
5. Using the first flat head screwdriver, press two tabs on the big grey main shifter housing clip on the drivers side inwards, then use one screwdriver to hold it in an upwards prying position from the right pin area
6. Using the second screwdriver, press the final tab in
7. The entire shifter should now be free and lift up and out of the shifter base
8. Grease balls on new shifter and transfer right pin bushing, then reverse all the steps

To note:
1. The Mini shifter uses a M12x1.25 gear k**b thread pitch so you’ll need a new gear k**b
2. Don’t pry apart the bottom shifter cable plastic end assembly, just pop the entire thing off the shifter
