A 1928 Mercedes-Benz built for serious speed โ€” and it sounds every bit as dramatic as it looks.

The Mercedes-Benz 38/250 SS was one of the great supercharged sports cars of its era. Designed under Ferdinand Porsche, it was powered by a mighty 7.6-litre inline-six engine, with a supercharger that engaged at full throttle for an extra burst of power.

At the time, Mercedes-Benz claimed the SS was the fastest sports car in the world โ€” and the model quickly proved itself. In 1928, a Mercedes-Benz SS won the German Grand Prix at the Nรผrburgring, helping cement its reputation as one of the most capable sporting cars of the day.

Although not a pure racing car, the 38/250 SS achieved considerable success in races and hill climbs, combining road-going luxury with serious performance.

Fast, powerful, beautifully engineered, and unmistakably Mercedes-Benz.
