1,000 NZ winners – what a milestone!

Congratulations to Sam Collett, who on Sunday joined an incredibly exclusive club after riding her 1,000th winner on New Zealand soil.

There’s a special Trentham connection to this achievement too. Sam partnered Waisake to victory in the 2021 Wellington Cup, following in the footsteps of her mum, Trudy Thornton, a two-time Wellington Cup-winning jockey.

Sam also tasted Group 1 success here at Trentham aboard Travelling Light in the 2020 Levin Classic.

Now Sam joins both Trudy and her dad Jim Collett in reaching 1,000 domestic winners, a remarkable family achievement.

Congratulations Sam!

From Trentham to the Caulfield Cup?

2026 Wellington Cup winner Manzor Blue could be flying the Kiwi flag across the Tasman this spring, as the only New Zealand-trained horse nominated for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup.

Trained by Lisa Latta and raced by Go Racing, Manzor Blue produced a brilliant performance here at Trentham in January, coming from the back of the field to claim the Group 3 Wellington Cup (3200m). She followed that up with a runner-up finish in the Group 2 Auckland Cup (3200m).

Connections now have their sights set on some of Australia’s biggest staying features, with the Caulfield Cup the preferred target for the mare's Australian campaign with the $500,000 Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) the alternative, before a potential tilt at the Melbourne Cup.

We’ll certainly be cheering her on from Trentham!

What a career it has been for jumps jockey Emily Farr, who announced her retirement at Riccarton yesterday at Grand National day.

Emily has been a standout with 108 wins!

We were thrilled to see her add two more victories to her record at Trentham earlier this year, claiming both the Manawatū Hurdles and Manawatū Steeplechase back in June.

Emily has made an incredible contribution to jumps racing and leaves the sport with plenty to be proud of. 👏🏆

Wishing you all the best for your next chapter. ✨

That’s a wrap on the 2025/26 racing season! 🎉

Today belonged to the Awapuni apprentices, with five of the six races won by our rising stars.

The highlight of the day came from leading apprentice Amber Riddell, who claimed the $60,000 Power Farming Manawatu Awapuni Synthetic Final aboard the Mike Breslin-trained Kereti. Amber controlled the race from the outset, settling perfectly in front before putting the field away in the home straight to score by an impressive three lengths.

Earlier in the day, Amber also partnered the Peter & Trent Didham-trained Pistachio to a hard-fought victory, narrowly defeating Stephen Gray Racing's luckless gelding Kodiac Bear. A well-earned double to cap off a stellar season.

Jim Chung also celebrated a race-to-race double, taking out Races 3 and 4. His first came aboard the Barry Beatson-trained Thelongerulook, producing a determined performance before backing it up with victory on Roger Allen’s Subtle Time, narrowly holding off the Lisa Latta Racing - trained Platinum Sixty Six.

Leading Synthetic Jockey Floor Moerman also made her mark, recording two minor placings before producing a perfectly timed ride aboard Popinjay in Race 2. Storming home late, Floor got the Mike Breslin-trained runner home by a long neck, giving the stable a training double for the day.

A huge thank you to all our trainers, owners, jockeys, apprentices, punters, raceday officials, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone else who helps make our racedays possible. It’s been a fantastic season, and we can't wait to see what the 2026/27 season has in store!

In the meantime, RACE will be moving back to our original social media pages. If you want to stay up to date with everything happening at RACE, be sure to head over and give us a follow.
