It was a day for doubles at the Manawatu ITM Ladies Day at the Races!
Following on from Emily Farr's feature double, Awapuni apprentice Jim Chung also secured a well-earned double on the card. Chung guided the promising Shamexpress filly, Shamelia Kirk to her first victory for trainer Robbie Patterson before adding a second win in Race 9 aboard Bradman for trainer Roydon Bergerson. The tough eight-year-old gelding held off a strong challenge from Benefactor (Lisa Latta) to record his 10th win from 66 starts.
Mike Breslin, representing the In To Win Syndication , saw the in-form mare Ima Brazen One (Erin Leighton) bring up her third consecutive victory, comfortably putting the field away inside the final 100 metres. Breslin completed his own double with Kosta in the last race of the day. Guided by Jonathan Riddell, who found the best part of the track, the determined gelding was strong enough at the finish to hold off late challenges from Komocean (A. Sharrock) and Arksey (H. Wilson).
The final double of the day came from Wanganui trainer, Kevin Myers. After taking out the Manawatu ITM Manawatu Hurdles with Happy Star, Kevin had to wait until Race 8 for his second win of the day, where local apprentice Floor Moerman, dug deep in tough conditions to drive Possess home in a hard-fought finish.
Thankyou to all the owners, trainers, and patrons that supported our midweek meeting.
We return to racing on Sunday, 21 June for the second meeting of our Power Farming Synthetic series at Awapuni Racecourse.
