Yesterday our helicopters were assisting with the fire in Kerikeri. A big thank you to Fire and Emergency NZ and everyone involved on the ground for the coordinated effort.

As we head into summer, fire risk increases quickly. Please take extra care with any activity that could start a fire and report smoke early. A fast response can make all the difference.

Introducing the Salt Air Helibarge 2.0! This exciting addition to our fleet enhances operations at the Paihia waterfront with the introduction of a second helipad. The new platform not only reduces noise at the waterfront but also elevates the guest experience, offering an even more immersive introduction to the stunning Bay of Islands. After thorough testing of its operational capabilities, we will gradually integrate the Helibarge into our services over the coming months.

A fabulous evening and couple of days with the Granddaughter of the second owner of ZK-CFA/CU-N346 #1439, Katia Sanchez.

Katia's Grandfather Rafael Sanchez was the proud caretaker of this wonderful Widgeon from June 1949 to 1 May 1962. During this time she was the family "runabout" between their home of Cuba and the USA as well as many fishing and business trips. In 1959 after Castro took power the family left Cuba with her for Florida in the USA. Eventually she was sold to Bill Danko who subsequently sold her to Tourist Air Travel in New Zealand, arriving in 1963. From here her NZ history began.
Katia's uncle, Alfredo (Rafaels eldest son) made contact in 2018 looking to track down their beloved family aircraft and we have remained in contact since with Alfredo following her restoration to flying condition.

It was a truly moving experience to share her with Katia and Kyle (on their honeymoon, Congrats!) during a flight over the Bay of Islands knowing her Dad, Uncle and Grandfather had sat in the same seats in the same aircraft some 70 odd years earlier.

The history these wonderful aircraft have to share never ceases to amaze us. Enjoy the rest of your time in NZ Katia and Kyle, make sure your Uncle gets down here soon!
Grant and Cherie.
PS. I have included a few old photos taken while she was in Cuba.
