The Civic I’ve always wanted. 🇯🇵🇳🇿
I’ve finally bitten the bullet and picked up a 1987 3rd gen Honda Civic hatch, something I’ve wanted for years.
The problem with these in NZ is finding one that hasn’t already been eaten alive by rust, neglected, modified beyond recognition, or simply disappeared altogether. So rather than waiting for the “perfect” one to magically turn up, I figured if I really want one, I’m going to have to put in the hard yards myself.
And this one definitely needs the hard yards. 😂
The plan is to bring it back from the dead and build my version of an E-AT Si -inspired JDM Civic, low, period-correct, crusty in all the right places, sitting on some cool JDM wheels, but with the freedom to build it exactly how I want rather than trying to replicate a factory special.
It’s going to be a long road, (all the way to the South Island 🫣) but that’s half the fun.
I’m also going to document the whole thing and turn the rebuild into a YouTube series, from the rusty, rough starting point right through to whatever this little Civic eventually becomes.
Time to see if I can bring an old NZ Civic back to life. 🛠️🇯🇵
