Following on from last post, In February I traveled to Rotorua to pick up the new 88a Superstock, I reached out to Glenn (the former 88a) asked if I could steal his number in which he was changing numbers which worked out great. My awesome winch wasn't up to the task for loading the car, so Brent used his shop crane to help load car onto the trailer. Loaded the Ute with all the spare parts before I began the journey home.
Initially, I planned to leave most of the car in its existing condition. However, I was thinking of electroplating the torque arm and other bits which revealed a hairline crack on the torque arm's top tube. This potentially could of led to a expensive repair if it wasn't fixed, This was the deciding factor in my decision to completely disassemble the car for a thorough inspection and to replace or repair components, the rest of the car checked out fine.
I reached out to Deon at DMA Custom Fabrication to repair the damaged torque arm, which turned out great. Following this, the remaining components—including all the suspension arms, birdcage brackets, the front beam, and the pedal box—along with all new nuts and bolts were sent for a once over.
The team at Acme Plating - Bright Zinc Electroplaters in Onehunga provided a bright zinc electroplating service for all the parts and were a pleasure to deal with. While the parts were getting done turned to all the An lines / fittings took all the lines to Ryan at GSS in green lane for a inspection cleaned and pressure tested each line which came back 100%.
88A Tank is still for sale! One cool christmas present for someone!
