Since then we have grown from a “one man band” to a team of 5 with a dedicated rigging yard, work shop, and chandlery.

The RopeTek rigging business was started in Nelson 25 years ago by well known journeyman rigger John Foulds and subsequently purchased by Adam Bonham-Carter in 2015. We haven't got tired of celebrating the awesomeness that is our new workshop / shed space. A seagull's view gives a great perspective of what we have to offer for your next rigging refit project.

The far containers home our shop, Yacht Supplies Chandlery - the go-to place for hardware, cleaners, maintenance, anchoring, rigging, cordage and bosun products. Accessible from the road in front of H dock, near the Nelson Marina Office.

Behind the epic splicing bench are samples of the rigging cables available, with extra drums stored on the roof.

Moveable trestles and a custom spar trailer can move and accommodate up to 3 big masts (comfortably) under cover, with additional racks out the back to store a dozen more.

The RopeTek vans are fully self-contained mobile workshops ready to hit the road to bring our services to you.

The nearest containers are where the noise-boys hang out - fabrication sound effects battle dubious choices in radio stations for decibel dominance.

When you get your mast stepped, new sheets made, new chainplates fabricated, shorelines spliced....it all happens here.

It's a busy, bustling happy, place to be.

There's a time and place for getting hot and steamy. THIS. IS. NOT. IT.

Unfortunately, moisture build up on the inside of nav lights is not uncommon, but it can easily go undetected - especially when it's at the top of the mast.

The obvious problem is the water + electricity equation, but this also substanially reduces the visibily of your lights.

This photo is just one of the many you will receive with a RopeTek Rig Inspection. Our lads picked up on this issue this morning and have already fixed it.

The unsung hero of simple sailing solutions has to be the humble, low friction ring.

It's applications include:
- leading lines along the rails and off the decks
- simple purchase rigs and jiggers
- outhaul tension turning point
- Sheet trimming / leading solutions
- Running backstays...pretty much anywhere you might use a block

With no moving parts, there's nothing to break.

We've accidentally overstocked and it's doing Kim's OCD in that they aren't sitting nicely on the hook.

Chainplates are often a forgotten maintenance item that contribute to a significant portion of rig failures - get ‘em checked when rig is replaced. If you are not sure if or when they were checked … make a plan to do so.

CAUTION TRIPPING HAZARD! But with such a great reason. We've flaked out 85m of our delicious 10mm DIN766 G40 Italian solid zinc chain for a client - but he wants the pleasure of cutting it himself. It's quite emotional!
This product has been flying out of the door since we started stocking it, and has the additional benefit of being twinkly and pretty. Possibly only beneficial if you have the misfortune of being banished to the anchor locker on a regualr basis...

ROPETEK FABRICATION - we are often called on to repair or replace unique or hard to find parts. With a workshop onsite, we are able to save our clients time and money by fabricating replacements.

This mast tang was bent out of shape and displayed small stress fractures. With the mast in our loft, we were able to fabricate a custom replacement that fits perfectly. A great result all round.
