MEET THE TEAM — JAVAN HUXTABLE

We’re stoked to welcome Javan Huxtable, our newest Automotive Technician, to the Cartel team.

Javan specialises in mechanical and electrical servicing and repairs, with a particular talent for diagnosing those tricky vehicle faults that have left other workshops scratching their heads. His knowledge of automotive electrical and electronic systems is something he’s become well known for throughout his career.

In fact, Javan was previously awarded Mitsubishi Technician of the Year twice — so it’s fair to say he knows his way around a vehicle.

What does he enjoy most about the job? Getting stuck into a vehicle that’s been unresolved by multiple other workshops, finding the fault, and getting it fixed.

Since joining Cartel, Javan says one of the things he enjoys most is being surrounded by a team who are all highly skilled at what they do, with plenty of opportunities to learn from each other. As he puts it, we’re “a bunch of good guys.”

When he’s not in the workshop, you’ll usually find Javan out riding his motorbike or mountain bike, or spending time with his partner.

What a great night at the workshop last night for Hoods Up! 🙌🚗

It was awesome seeing so many people come along to enjoy the cars, food, music, drinks and, most importantly, the great conversations and atmosphere throughout the night.

A huge thank you once again to Nelson Classic Car Museum for organising the event and having us involved. We really appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a great evening celebrating the car community.

And of course, a massive thank you to our awesome customers for letting us display there vehicles and everyone who came along and helped make the night what it was! 👏

We recently had the privilege of restoring and repainting “Jumbo”, the oldest locomotive belonging to the Nelson Society of Modellers.

After years of service and weathering, Jumbo was in need of some serious TLC. Our team stripped it back, carried out the necessary repairs and restoration work, before giving it a fresh new paint finish to bring this little piece of local history back to life.

It was great to see the transformation from a tired and weathered locomotive back into something the Nelson Society of Modellers can be proud to have on display and running for years to come.

A big thanks to the Nelson Society Of Modellers for trusting us with such a unique and special restoration. ❤️

🏁 PROJECT 64 — BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS MINI 🏁

Here’s a look at a pretty special project currently underway at Cartel Works Ltd — this 1964 Morris Mini Cooper S, known as the Project 64 Bonneville Salt Flats Mini.

This little Mini has had a hard life, with years of exposure to salt contamination taking its toll and leaving it in need of a full restoration. The car is usually proudly displayed at the Nelson Classic Car Museum, so we’re stoked to have the opportunity to bring this piece of history back to its former glory. 🔧🎨

This restoration is a true team effort, with our mechanical workshop and panel & paint division working together to tackle the project from every angle. From mechanical work and fabrication through to panel repairs, refinishing and paint, every part of the Mini is being carefully worked through to bring this iconic little car back to life.

There’s a long way to go, but we’re excited to document the journey and share the progress with you along the way.

A bit of private work completed on this awesome Mk2 Ford Es**rt! 🔥

This one’s a little different from your average Es**rt — a fully road-legal race car that came into the workshop for a well-deserved tidy-up.

We had the pleasure of remaking new interior panels, carrying out the necessary panel beating, and giving the exterior a fresh coat of paint to bring it back to life. A seriously cool car and a great project for the team to be a part of! 👌

Another look at some private work we recently completed on this tidy little Toyota Starlet Glanza! 🔥

This Glanza came into the workshop with some paint damage to the front bumper, side skirts, and wing mirrors. After repairing and refinishing the damaged areas, everything was refitted and the car was back looking better than ever! 👌
