Crash Avoidance Space (C.A.S.) π π
In traffic at intersections, the safe distance between the rear of the car in front of you and your front bumper is referred to as your C.A.S. It should be a car length (think SUV, not Mini Cooper) and is there for three reasons:
1. 'Forward Vehicle Breakdown' β if the vehicle in front of you breaks down, you have room to go around.
2. If the vehicle behind you fails to stop safely and hits your car, you wonβt hit the car in front of you.
3. You will have enough space to clear a safe path if emergency vehicles under Priority One (lights and sirens on) need to get through (you are required by law to clear a safe path for them at all times).
