Heading back to Nelson after a busy week in Golden Bay. Back again in 2 weeks to get this boat in the water. For those who don’t know, I’ve trained as a professional boat builder and worked with sone of the greatest in the NZ and Australian industry. I enjoy a good challenge and everything on a yacht is exactly that! Curves, tapers, thinking laterally is a must. As well as a can do attitude!

After a refreshing trail run, I got heaps done on Manaroa.

Helping out a mate with his steel yacht before it goes back in the water in a few weeks.

Getting the cabin top faired and painted before we install solar panels.

Keeping on top of hull maintenance for Surfskis is important. These boats rely on the outer skin to be 💯 intact for strength. A ski with a split can quickly fold in half in rough weather. Most have a lightweight foam core construction with no bulkheads. Always be careful when loading on the car. A gust of wind can do a lot of damage.

Currently working on the Golden Bay waka fleet. 17 paddles repaired and refreshed. 3 waka boats repaired and tidied up. It’s been fun playing fetch with Jaz the boat yard dog in between jobs. Living in my new Macpac Duolite tent getting ready for summer adventures in my sea kayak. More pics coming soon!
