This exhaust gas sensor is used to monitor how efficiently your engine is running. A car was presented to us with reports of “the transmission has issues - the transmission is binding up”. We road tested the vehicle and confirmed the fault. We scanned the vehicle for fault codes - none found. We did our normal ‘initial inspection’ of the transmission, the transmission showed little sign of failure so we turned our attention to possible engine tuning issues. Using a variety of up to date diagnostic equipment we identified that the exhaust sensor was giving erratic readings. New sensor fitted and problem solved. Customer was much happier to pay for the sensor than the full overhaul that he thought he was in for 🤔😃

At first glance it looks a little like something out of the matrix...
A customer bought his vehicle into us the other day with reports of 'losing drive'. Fearing that he was up for a full overhaul, he asked us to 'take a look'. Our suspicion was that the fault was more electrical than mechanical. We connected up our Oscilloscope to the vehicle CAN bus communication system. We soon identified the faulty electronic modal that was upsetting the Transmission. Crisis averted.

Customers often come in and ask me “whats a transmission rebuild going to cost”?
A customer came in today with complaints of a disturbing noise coming from the transmission. The car had been diagnosed by two other garages who sent the customer to me to get a price for a transmission rebuild. I took the time to diagnose the ‘transmission noise’ myself. I ended up tracing the noise to a set of loose wheel nuts. After securing the wheel the trans was a quiet as a mouse. My customer was very happy with the ‘price of the rebuild’ and just as happy that the wheel had not fallen off in traffic 🤔😃🏎

Doing the final checks and adjustments on a Limited Slip Diff (L*D) for a customer with a classic car. L*D’s are used to increase traction and decrease wheel spin especially on wet roads.
The dial indicator as pictured is used to measure fine tolerances while the blue engineers ink confirms that everything is set up exactly as it should be.
Best I ensure that he uses the correct oil when reassembling his pride and joy over the weekend 😃🚗

A customer brings in his vehicle and says “every so often it does something really weird”. I hooked up some electronic test equipment and soon suspected a poor earth wire termination. This video shows a chassis earth point where a number of electrical devices are earthed to the vehicle chassis. At least one of these wires goes to an aftermarket accessory. The bolt was tight on its threads but was not clamping the wires securely. A good illustration of why I am so suspicious of aftermarket wiring. I cleaned up the threads, fitted a new bolt, and somebody had a better Christmas than expected. At HBTransmissions, finding simple solutions to awkward faults are some our favourite jobs 😃
