Introducing our Founder and Director, Joe.

Joe’s been around trucks and diesel longer than most of us have had our licences. With more than 30 years of hands-on experience under his belt, he knows his way around an engine like the back of his hand. If a rig rolls in, chances are Joe already knows what’s wrong before the bonnet’s even up.

While he’s the boss around here, you’ll often find him out on the floor with our apprentices, passing on his knowledge, or having a yarn with customers. He’s never short of a good story or a quick joke.

When he’s not keeping the fleet on the road, Joe’s tinkering on a DIY project, hanging out with his family and granddaughter, or walking the dog. Though he reckons nothing beats the sound of a diesel engine purring just right.

Truck drivers spend more time on the road than anyone else, working long hours to keep our food and goods moving across the country. The last thing they need is reckless, silly drivers making their job harder, more dangerous and putting lives at risk.

With Labour Weekend coming up, our roads will be busier than usual, making it even more important to drive safely. A little patience goes a long way. Give trucks space, keep a safe following distance, and only overtake when it’s legal and safe to do so.

Disaster was narrowly avoided in all three videos released by the national road freight association.

Meet Luke, one of our talented apprentices at SFS. Luke is currently working towards his Level 4 qualification in Diesel Mechanics — the New Zealand Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Level 4). While he’s great at tackling his book-based assignments, what he really enjoys is the hands-on experience he gains on the job.

Luke also appreciates being part of our awesome team culture. Here he is putting together a gearbox - a real highlight of his day-to-day work.

From what we’re seeing, some of our customers are doing it tough. Rising costs are putting real pressure on operators. Understandably, many are looking for ways to save on outgoings.
