🔧 SPOT THE ODD ONE OUT 👀

Here’s a good example of why checking piston protrusion can tell you a lot about what’s going on inside an engine.

These pistons are all at top dead centre, and you can see one is sitting noticeably lower than the others when measured above the block surface.

So what happened?
The connecting rod has bent

A bent rod effectively changes the distance between the crankshaft and piston, meaning that piston can no longer reach the same height as the others. Affecting compression and Causing running issues.

Another case of measuring what you can see to work out what you can’t see!

We’ve added a DPF cleaning machine to the workshop, allowing us to clean DPFs from both passenger and commercial vehicles.

So, what does a DPF actually do? 🤔

A DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) traps soot from the exhaust. During a regeneration, the soot is burnt off turning into CO₂ H₂O and Ash, But the ash doesn’t burn away and will accumulate inside the DPF over time. A proper clean can help restore the filter’s flow and performance. 🧼💨

The DPF in this video is from a local bus company, in for a routine clean to help keep their fleet running as it should. 🚌💨

Because sometimes it’s better to give your DPF a good clean rather than hoping a regeneration sorts it out.

From cars and utes to trucks and buses — we’ve now got the gear to give those DPFs a proper clean and get you back on the road.

📞 Got a DPF giving you grief? Give us a call.

🔧 INVESTING IN KNOWLEDGE. DELIVERING BETTER RESULTS.

Shane headed off to DENSO Common Rail Diagnostic Training earlier this week to sharpen his skills, build our knowledge and stay right up with the latest in diesel diagnostics.

One of the key things we covered was just how much common rail technology has changed.

A 15-year-old common rail system might have a basic 2-wire injector, while the latest system has a 6-wire DENSO G4.5S with i-ART technology injector which has a pressure sensor, temperature sensor and microprocessor all built into the injector.

Both are still doing the same basic job — delivering fuel — but the technology behind them is worlds apart!

And with technology like this, the way we diagnose faults has changed too. A bit harder than just giving it a poke with the test light and hoping for the best!

At Diesel & Turbo Wellington, we reckon you’re never finished learning — because the day you think you know it all is probably the day the next weird fault rolls through the door!

More knowledge. Better diagnostics. Better solutions.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads and father figures out there! ❤️🔧

From teaching us how to fix things, to somehow knowing exactly where that mysterious noise is coming from… dads have a way of keeping everything running.

Cheers to all the Kiwi dads who give us a hand, share a yarn, and occasionally say, “She’ll be right.” Or “That’s not going anywhere.” 😆

Have a top Father’s Day, legends! 🍻

From all of us at Diesel and Turbo Wellington — thanks for everything you do!

Intake Manifold Clean — 1VD LandCruiser 🔧

Another 1VD LandCruiser in the workshop for an intake manifold clean.

Over time, carbon and oil vapour can build up throughout the intake system, restricting airflow and affecting how the engine breathes.

Once stripped down, you can really see just how much build-up can accumulate, even at relatively low kilometres.

A thorough clean helps restore airflow and gives the engine the best chance of performing as it should. 🔧

If your 1VD is feeling sluggish, lacking power or simply hasn’t had the intake system checked for a while, it could be worth having a look.

📞 Give us a call to book your LandCruiser in.

🌼 Daffodil Day 🌼

Today is Daffodil Day — a reminder of how many Kiwi families and communities are affected by cancer. 💛

If you’re out and about today and see the Daffodil Day volunteers, chuck a few dollars in the bucket or grab a daffodil. Every little bit helps support people affected by cancer and fund vital research.

A simple gesture can make a real difference. 🌼💛

Rising Oil Level? 🚨 Here’s What We Found

This week we had a Toyota Land Cruiser come into the workshop with a rising engine oil level complaint.

After carrying out a number of checks on the injector side of the fuel system, we couldn’t find any obvious fuel leaks in this area.

So, we made the decision to remove the fuel pump and have a closer look.

And this is what we found… 👀🔧

The leak wasn’t obvious with the pump installed, but once removed and pump turning building internal pressure, we found the front seal was allowing fuel past. The fuel was making its way into the engine oil, causing the oil level to rise.

Another example of why a rising oil level on a diesel should never be ignored.

Sometimes finding the fault means digging a little deeper. 🔧

Got a diesel problem or noticed your oil level is rising? Give us a call and we’ll help get to the bottom of it. 📞🔧

🔧😂 DID WE FIX YOUR CAR OR JUST MAKE IT SOUND LESS BROKEN? 😂🔧

If we’ve had your vehicle in the workshop lately, or you’ve been in to see our parts team we’d love a review!

Don’t worry, you don’t need to write an essay — just tell everyone how good we are. 😎

⭐ Car running mint? Give us a review.
🔧 Fixed the noise you’d been ignoring for 6 months? Give us a review.
💸 Wallet slightly lighter but car actually working? Yep… give us a review. 😂
💬Had a yarn with our parts team? That deserves 5 stars too!

A good review helps other locals know where to bring their pride and joy when it starts making “that noise”.

And if we did a good job, don’t keep it to yourself — tell the internet! 😂

Thank you for choosing to support our business. We genuinely appreciate your trust and continued support, and we look forward to looking after you again — even on those jobs where you say, “It’s only a little noise — it’s been there for months,” and we end up finding something that looks like it belongs in a museum. 🤣🔧

💨 DPF warning lights, lack of power 🔧

This one rolled into the workshop with a seriously soot blocked DPF. The owner had noticed a lack of power, warning lights on the dash, and the vehicle just wasn’t running like it should.

Our diagnostic process confirmed excessive soot loading and high differential pressure across the DPF. After carrying out the appropriate repair we’ve got it breathing properly again and back on the road.

A blocked DPF isn’t always a failed DPF. In many cases, the underlying cause needs to be identified and corrected before replacing expensive components.

⚠️ If your diesel vehicle is showing a DPF warning light, going into limp mode, or producing excessive smoke, don’t ignore it. Catching the problem early can often save you from an expensive DPF replacement.
