The aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle hit our community hard, leaving many families grappling with loss and displacement. Among them, we found Colin's family, the deserving winners of this year's Wheels of Hope initiative, organized by DJ Mac Panel and Paint.
Colin's daughter and son-in-law faced an unimaginable ordeal as their little house was swallowed by shoulder-deep floodwaters. With no insurance coverage and a pink-stickered home, they felt overwhelmed. But the strength of their family and community support kept them going!
As if that wasn't enough, fate had another test for them – a massive 80-year-old Poplar tree came crashing down during heavy rain, crushing their last possession - their car, and damaging their trailer.
But here's where hope shines through! Colin's family was chosen as the worthy recipient of the Wheels of Hope car! As they eagerly await the new license plates, they can't wait to embrace the new possibilities this car will bring to their lives. A symbol of hope for a brighter future!
We once again want to thank our sponsors and organisers The Sunrise Foundation - Gisborne/Tairawhiti, AA Insurance, Turners Cars, Brian Roberts Towing, MediaWorks New Zealand, The Gisborne Herald for making this initiatiative possible.
The story of Colin and his family reminds us of the incredible resilience of the human spirit and the compassion that binds our community together. In times of crisis, we come together, supporting and rebuilding as one. 💕🏘️
