🔧 Our technician Nate has been busy in the clean room this week, taking apart this bad boy piece by piece! 😮

This D16 engine came in with some serious accident damage, and now every part is lined up on the shelves, ready for a proper clean before going back together. There's something satisfying about seeing an entire engine broken down to its bones — every component gets checked, cleaned, and given the attention it needs before reassembly.

It's slow, meticulous work, but it's exactly the kind of job Nate and our team thrive on. No shortcuts, just doing it right. 💪

⚙️ In the workshop this week: a Volvo Penta run-up engine on the stand, getting put through its paces! 💻

As an authorised Volvo Penta dealer, our technicians aren't just turning spanners — they're running this engine through the computer, checking every parameter and making sure it's performing exactly as it should before it goes anywhere near a customer. 🔧

🌏 Behind the scenes in Shanghai! 🎥

This reel takes you through both the Volvo Penta Distribution Centre and the Kalmar Assembly Factory, two very different sides of the operation, but the same commitment to quality running through both. 👀

Getting to walk the floor of both facilities and see the scale of what goes into building the equipment we sell, service and stand behind every day was something else. It's one thing supporting these brands from Dunedin, it's another seeing where it all starts. 🙌

Huge thanks to the Volvo Penta and Kalmar teams for having us and showing us around. We're proud to be an authorised dealer for both, and trips like this are a great reminder of the standard we're representing. 🤝

It's not all work around here.

We took the team out for a Social Club session axe throwing this time around, and there was some serious (and seriously questionable) aim on display 🪓

At Heavy Diesel Support, "making things hum" isn't just about the gear we work on, it's about our people too. We're big believers that a team that grows together works better together.

Our Social Club is all about giving the team a chance to switch off, have a laugh, and build the kind of camaraderie that carries straight back into the workshop and out on the field.

Because when our people are firing on all cylinders, so is everything else.

You’ll lead from the front — supporting the team, mentoring apprentices, solving technical challenges and still getting stuck into the tools.

This truck was not built for wooden stadium floors. 😅

Last month we headed down to Invercargill for the NZ Quarry Conference, and that's our service truck sitting on the floor of Stadium Southland. Getting that much weight in without marking the place up took a bit of care, but we made it work.

Three days of talking to people in the quarry industry, hearing what they're dealing with on site, swapping stories and sharing a bit about what we do. At Heavy Diesel Support LTD, we take pride in what you do, and that's what this conference looked like in practice. Every conversation was different, and every one of them was a reminder of why we like this industry.

Thanks to the NZ Quarry Conference team for having us. We really enjoyed being part of it. The quarrying industry is full of great people. We’d love the opportunity to be involved again in the future!

It's a BIG week in the HDSL workshop… because one of our own is currently living the Volvo Penta dream in Sweden! 🇸🇪👏

Late last year, our Senior Apprentice Izak took out the title of Volvo Penta Apprentice of the Year for Oceania — and this week, that award has taken him all the way to the home of Volvo Penta itself.

Right now, Izak is in Sweden, getting an up-close look at Volvo Penta’s world-class operations for their marine and industrial products, including their foundry, assembly factories, remanufacturing sites and Volvo Penta HQ! Not a bad way to spend the week!

We’re hugely proud of Izak and can’t wait to hear all about the trip when he gets back — and no doubt he’ll be coming home with plenty of knowledge, stories, and inspiration to bring back to the HDSL workshop and our valued customers.

Enjoy every minute, Izak— what an experience!
