Reid Trailers are a New Zealand owned and operated company first established in Auckland in the early 1960’s, making us, we believe, the longest established trailer manufacturer in New Zealand. Many early domestic and commercial Reid Trailers from 1965 onwards are still in very good condition with no obvious signs of damage. Although, the life of a trailer is largely dependent on how the trailer i

s maintained, some of our older trailers have been on the road since 1965. In short, we don’t know the exact shelf life of a Reid Trailer, but it’s at least 58 years and still counting. All of our trailers are manufactured, from raw steel to the finished product, right here in our factory in Auckland. We use NZ sourced quality components, New Zealand structural steel and all of our trailers are hot dip galvanised… and, yes they are built for New Zealand conditions. We are constantly reviewing product design both in house and from suppliers to make sure our trailers are the best on the market.

This Rowing Skiff trailer is the largest of the Rowing Skiff trailer models we design and build.

Completed for a customer earlier this year, this trailer’s first major journey will be heading south from the North Island all the way down to Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel. There, the school’s teams will compete at the 2026 Maadi Cup, the National Secondary School Rowing Championships.

We built this custom-built Mobility trailer a year ago, designed specifically for transporting Mobility chairs and equipment with maximum safety and ease of use in mind.

This enclosed trailer features an easy-lift rear ramp for effortless loading, a convenient side personnel door and access panel, and a specially made aluminium storage box at the front, purpose-built to securely hold a unique piece of robotic equipment. Inside, you’ll find multiple tie rails to keep everything firmly in place while in transit.

Our customer has told us that using this trailer has been a pleasure and a huge improvement over their previous setup, which was challenging to access and simply not fit for purpose. We’re delighted to have been able to make such a positive difference, and we look forward to supporting more Mobility needs in the community!

This Enclosed trailer that we built 18-months ago, recently came back into our workshop for an additional feature to be installed.

Designed to be truly multi-purpose, its adaptability makes it an excellent choice for a wide range of uses. From various community events and educational outreach days, to native tree planting days, this trailer offers reliable support and practical amenities for many occasions.

Some of its features include:
• 🍔 A pull-out BBQ for easy hospitality at any event
• 📖 A lift-up side door revealing an internal display area for brochures and promotional materials, which also acts as shelter from the sun and rain
• 🌱 A rear lift-up door opening to reveal loads of storage space for equipment, tables, chairs, and all the essentials – and we made them a removable steel box for stashing muddy tools in after a big planting day.

The trailer was wrapped with a vibrant colourful wrap that highlights NZ native flora and fauna, complemented by distinctive murals of the area created by a local artist.

Owing to its versatility and well-considered design, the trailer has apparently become a valuable asset to community groups and members, and we've been told it gets a lot of use, so it's been great to get such positive feedback!

Rowing Skiff Trailer Production Update - From Workshop Beginnings to Transporting Rowers to the 2026 Maadi Cup in the South Island

Sharing a behind-the-scenes look at one of the larger of our two main Rowing Skiff Trailer models currently under construction. The first photo takes us back to the trailer in its early stages as we carefully manoeuvred the 7+ metre long body around our workshop.

Fast forward to the second photo, where the trailer is nearing completion, almost ready for its debut journey! This robust trailer’s first long distance trip will be a special one… transporting a school’s rowing skiffs all the way from the North Island to Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel. There, the teams will compete in the 2026 Maadi Cup, the National Secondary School Championships.

We are finishing the final touches before it heads off to our customer next week. Wishing all the young rowers the best of luck for the Maadi Cup—may your journey be smooth and your races swift!

A Great Solution for Transporting Heavy Steel Sculptures

We recently completed an 8’ x 5’ Reid Commercial Trailer for a returning customer who’s been relying on Reid’s quality for years.
After many years of dependable service from his smaller Reid trailer, he came back to us with a special request, to build a robust trailer for his talented artist wife, (a Sculptor) to transport her large (and heavy!) steel sculptures from her workshop to outdoor exhibitions around NZ and client’s properties.

Understanding the requirements, we designed this trailer with a Tilt-deck for ease of loading and unloading, heavier springs and a higher GVM rating to handle the extra weight with ease. The deck is built extra tough with 18mm TransTex truck decking, and we added contractor’s tie rails on all four sides so the sculptures can be secured easily and safely during transit.

Because some of their sculpture deliveries require navigating tight spaces, they opted for a single axle design. This makes manoeuvring the trailer much easier, especially in those tight spots when delivering to clients.

It’s always a pleasure to help people and businesses get a trailer to suit their exact requirements.

We have another useful trailer rolling out of the workshop today, just finished for a valued customer in time for the Christmas holiday break! 🎄
This 9' x 5' trailer features a fully collapsible and removable cage, making it incredibly versatile for all your hauling needs.

It’s equipped with a smart-looking black heavy-duty PVC cover, designed to withstand the elements and keep your cargo protected from the weather.
The cover includes robust zips on all four corners for easy access, and the rear panel can be conveniently rolled up and secured, giving you quick access to the hinging rear cage panel whenever you need it.

This morning we delivered this custom-made Shopping Trolley trailer to our international customer, just in time for the grand opening of a large flagship multinational store here in New Zealand next week, (IKEA) Their first glimpse was just our design on our computer screen, so to see it brought to life in steel and aluminium was a real thrill for them. We're delighted that our work exceeded their expectations – so much so that they're already interested in commissioning another trailer in the near future! A huge thank you to our team for their attention to detail and for getting this trailer completed in time for next week’s grand opening 🇸🇪

With the arrival of spring, many sailing enthusiasts are eager to resume activities on the water. We constructed this Flat Deck Boat Trailer for a family whose son sails a Laser and they wanted to be able to transport multiple boats.
Accordingly, this trailer features double stacking racks which are removeable and sail tubes to provide additional storage options ⛵️
