Grab a cuppa .. itβs a long read but important! Changes have come our way and we need your help and ideas!
Hey friends and whanau , a few weeks ago we received some news that changes were coming from one of our main suppliers , we have been working hard to find a solution but we need your help! Your Ideas your suggestions and support as we navigate our way through. As of the 1st October our main supplier Food Bank Canterbury has implemented service fees- which now means there is a cost attached to us being able to receive the rescued food we have been collecting from them for the last few years ( we will not be passing this cost on to those who apply for food parcels ) this includes the fresh veges, frozen items , deli items all the things that create such a great variety in the food parcels we provide . We have no funding to cover these costs. For an example , we have placed an order to cover tomorrows food parcels to continue as usual ( thanks to a generous member of our community who has covered this cost ) and it is hundreds of dollars .. for one day .. to continue as we have been. This is not sustainable . We love what we do in our community and being able to provide food parcels that are of nutritional value and variety so the families who are struggling and come to see us can still feel good about the Kai they are putting on the table for their family . So team we are reaching out , if you or someone you know has contacts please be in touch - whether it be fundraising ideas , alternative food supply sources , a business looking to sponsor a community initiative or funding streams we would love to hear from you! Please know we will try our best to keep changes to a minimum but at this stage you may see changes in food parcels, availablity and eligibility to come and see us .
We have had to start making some minor changes to our policies in the interim
* there will now be a minimum of 30 days between visits to us
* we will be concentrating on our area and community , these details have not been finalised but we will directing those outside of our areas to help available in their area
* our numbers of food parcels and families we are able to help will decrease until we can either source from alternative suppliers or fund the costs we now face.
Thanks for reading team! Please share , or contact us if you have any suggestions , help us help those who are struggling in our community !
