🏁 Honda RS250 NF5.. Restoration Update
Another step forward with the Honda RS250 project!

A big thank you to Tim Coopey for the latest addition to my coming season... Really appreciate it, Tim!

The plan is to set this one up primarily as a wet bike and Friday practice machine, allowing us to preserve the main race bike and have something ready to go when the weather doesn't cooperate.

Having two bikes available, along with a growing collection of spares, should make preparing for and competing in the upcoming Post Classic racing season considerably easier.

There's still plenty of work ahead, but the project is coming together nicely.

Looking forward to getting these wonderful old two-strokes back where they belong.. out on the racetrack!

The magnesium rims are finally back.

After a fair bit of time, effort and careful restoration, the wheels for the Honda RS250 NF5 are finished and looking absolutely spot on.

Fully restored, refinished in satin black and now ready to be dressed with fresh bearings, seals, discs and tyres before going back onto the bike.

There’s something pretty special about keeping the original magnesium wheels with a machine like this.

They’re such a distinctive part of a proper Grand Prix bike, and seeing them looking this good again feels like another big piece of the build falling into place.

Slowly but surely, she’s coming together. 😎

🏁 DOUBLE SIX MOTORSPORT RESTORATIONS | HONDA RS250 NF5 UPDATE 🏁

Another big step forward on the Honda RS250 NF5 restoration.

What started as a completely stripped chassis is finally beginning to look like a race bike again. The frame and swingarm are back together, swingarm bearings completed and installed, the rear shock has been rebuilt and refitted, and the RS250 engine is now back where it belongs in the chassis.

There’s been a lot of cleaning, blasting, refinishing, rebuilding and checking to get to this point.. but seeing it assembled like this makes all those hours worthwhile.

And we couldn't resist sitting the freshly painted tank on for a sneak peek. 😎
What an absolutely stunning paint job.

From here the fun really begins.. suspension, wheels, brakes, controls, electrics, cooling system, exhausts and all the hundreds of little pieces that turn a collection of restored components & new parts back into a complete Honda Grand Prix motorcycle.

The target?
A fully restored, race-ready Honda RS250 NF5 for the 75th Anniversary Suzuki Series.
Not a museum piece.
It’s being built to race. 😉

Hmmmm… now comes one of the difficult decisions...What colour scheme do we put on it? 🤔

Period HRC? Something a little different?
Or recreate one of the iconic RS250 liveries from the era?

Honda RS250 NF5 Restoration Begins... 🏁

Well... here we go!

This weekend marked the final stage of the strip-down, and it's fair to say this old GP machine is pretty filthy and in desperate need of some love. But beneath the grime is one of Honda's legendary Grand Prix race bikes, and it deserves to be brought back to its former glory.

Over the coming weeks and months I'll be documenting a complete nut-and-bolt restoration of this Honda RS250 NF5, with the goal of returning it to the track for NZ Post Classic Racing.

As with the RS125 project, I won't be taking shortcuts. Every component will be inspected, restored or replaced where necessary, with authenticity, reliability and performance guiding every decision.

There will undoubtedly be plenty of challenges along the way, but that's all part of the fun.

A huge thank you to the incredible people who continue to support me behind the scenes with advice, technical knowledge, rare parts, and encouragement. Projects like this are never the work of one person alone.

These are the starting point photos... not particularly glamorous, but every great restoration has to begin somewhere.

I hope you'll enjoy following the journey as much as I enjoy bringing this iconic GP machine back to life.

Honda RS125 Restoration Completed 👌🏁

After weeks of work, countless hours in the workshop, a lot of research, parts sourcing, cleaning, polishing, rebuilding, and more attention to detail than I care to admit, the 1995 Honda RS125 restoration is finally complete.

The last few days have been spent finishing the final assembly, completing all the small details, and standing back to admire what is one of Honda's most iconic Grand Prix race bikes.

This project has been about far more than simply rebuilding a motorcycle. It has been about preserving a piece of racing history and returning a genuine GP machine to the condition it deserves.

A huge thank you to everyone who has followed the build, offered advice, supplied parts, shared information, or simply enjoyed the journey along the way. Your encouragement has made the project even more enjoyable.

I've attached a selection of images from the final stages of the restoration for you to enjoy.

The bike is now complete and ready to take its place in Post Classic Racing!
