The discussion on my Remedy powercats would not be complete without talking about the starting point. This is the Remedy Boxta 43. This is a boat I designed for my own use and the first Remedy hull. Firstly the boat had to be an economical build. It had to be trans-ocean capable. It had to be able run very economicaly but have a good turn of speed when desired. It had to be shallow draft and beachable to make access to beaches and shorelines easy and also for maintenance.
The interior has 3 cabins below and one head. There are other options available. There is a night lounge in each hull for a little privacy. The bridge has the galley, lounge and dining areas on the same level as the huge deck space and outdoor dining/lounge area. A stepped down aft cockpit and easy stairs down to to opening boarding platforms on each hull makes moving around the boat enjoyable and easy. Tramps up forward make a nice place to relax.
There are other boats in the range as I do custom designs for customers. The Remedy hull can be tailored to all sorts of operational needs. I have done specific use charter boats and commercial versions as well. The efficiency and performance of the Remedy hull lends itself to all sorts of applications both commercial and pleasure.

The largest proposal I have done based on my Remedy hull is this 25 metre boat. Designed to move through the Pacific administering healthcare to remote locations. The boat could sleep up to 20 people with 5 ensuites plus two day head/showers on the main deck. It had a drug cool store and dispensary/testing lab. Huge living area where crew could assemble to socialise or for seminars/lectures. That is a 7 metre tender on the back. The boat has relatively shallow draft for good access to remote Islands and full workshop facilities as the the boat had to be able to look after itself in remote locations. The chief engineer and captain had their own cabins with ensuites in the flybridge. Twin 1000Hp engines gave top speed of 23 and 27 knots. There were redundant systems incorporated also to make sure the boat always remained operational.
Unfortunately it was a case where I should have asked the budget prior to starting. They told me their wish list of which I incorporated it all, but the project stopped at the preliminary cost of the build unfortunately. But what a boat!

And after all the development and success of the Remedy 31 powercats, I have put some time into creating the Remedy 31 EC. A fully enclosed cruiser for private use or as a charter boat. This would make a magnificent boat for cruising New Zealand waters. It has 3 double cabins and a large head area with separate WC and shower compartments. Two loungers in the cockpit alongside a very large extended platform. Seating for 6 in the saloon and a very large galley work space. A very nice and simple cost effective cruising boat that does not need complex foils to go efficiently coupled with a very sea kindly hull makes it an attractive option. There is a wide range of power options from twin 90 to twin 200 Hp to choose from.

A couple of really nice photos of a Remedy 31 being launched. They have two of these boats.

This was another custom Remedy. The owner wanted a smaller boat, but to carry weight and have the required range and comfort I could not give it in the size they were asking for. After 3 goes I ended up settling on this 9.2 metre version which they are very happy with. It has excellent range and can travel from Denarau right around the Yasawa group and back with fuel to spare, cruising at 20-25 knots. Once again it incorporates the flat foredeck.

Just for sh*ts and giggles. This is a DIYNO 361 Tunnel Drive. It is running a Daihatsu Mira engine (40 Hp) through a gearbox I made to give a 2:1 reduction. This was the first sea trial. Pretty pleased with the result. The rev counter was probably not reading accurately on the day but the boat felt good. No cavitation at all. No vibration and the boat planed very easily and she turned well without cavitation. The design came about after the outboard dealerships in NZ got franchised through Aussie and we ended up paying twice what the rest of the world was paying for outboards. Tunnels are notoriously tricky but this is a new concept in tunnel design and it has proven the concept is good. The gearbox is just reduction so I have to build a reverse bucket to give it neutral and reverse. Another concept I have tested so will be good when I have that on but if you ran a standard gearbox with reverse it would be perfect. Certainly gives an option for someone who wants to use an automotive engine and it will also be a very good option for bigger boats. This prop on this boat is 50% inside the tunnel so provides shallow draft. There are options for protecting the prop fully but it complicates the steering on a boat this size. Good fun and a good result.
A special thanks to Jason Deer at Kernohan engineering for help on the project and Scott and Ethan for building the hull, their first boat build.
