About the Role

As a Heavy Diesel Technician, you'll play a vital role in keeping our customers' trucks and commercial vehicles operating safely and efficiently.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaboration and Person-Centred Support
Healthcare Assistants are expected to work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to support the health and wellbeing of individuals with complex needs. This includes implementing person-centred approaches tailored to each resident, recognising and responding to their unique requirements, and working proactively to maximise their independence.


Leadership and Ethical Practice
HCAs are required to take a leadership role when appropriate, demonstrating ethical and professional behaviour in all aspects of their work. They must be vigilant in recognising and responding to signs of vulnerability and abuse, ensuring the safety and dignity of all residents.


Responsiveness and Care Delivery
Under the direction and delegation of a health professional, HCAs are responsible for providing person-centred care. This includes recognising and responding to changes in a resident’s condition, reporting risks or concerns, and seeking assistance in challenging situations. Entry-level person-centred tasks and functions should always be performed within the boundaries and responsibilities of the role.


Routine Care and Support
HCAs must ensure that all routine cares are delivered in accordance with residents' care plans. This includes, but is not limited to, showering, dressing, mobilising, grooming, and providing nutritional assistance. As required, HCAs may also assist with laundry, cleaning, and kitchen duties, always maintaining good infection prevention principles.


Confidentiality and Professional Conduct
A commitment to privacy, dignity, comfort, and confidentiality is required at all times. All facility business must be kept confidential. HCAs are also expected to comply with policies related to punctuality, timekeeping, sick calls, professional appearance, conduct, and all house rules. Upholding the organisation’s policies, mission statement, and philosophies is essential.


Teamwork and Communication
Being an effective team member is vital. HCAs should demonstrate consideration for other employees, keep records and reports current and informative, and show flexibility, initiative, and understanding during busy periods. Good communication with residents and staff is necessary, including observing and reporting any changes in residents’ conditions and vital signs. Relevant information should be shared appropriately with colleagues and management, and positive participation in staff meetings is required.


Hygiene, Infection Control, and Safety
Adherence to basic hygiene and infection control principles, particularly hand washing, is essential. HCAs must assist with meal serving, ensuring infection control is maintained, and observe and report residents’ nutritional intake. Compliance with health and safety policies is mandatory, including reporting hazards, incidents, and accidents, cooperating with investigations, and attending relevant training.


Professional Development
Ongoing professional development is expected. This includes attending annual education and training sessions in accordance with organisational schedules and legislative requirements. Participation in annual performance appraisals is also required.


Additional Duties
HCAs may be required to perform other reasonable duties to maximise residents’ safety and sense of wellbeing.



PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
A strong commitment to assisting residents within a continuing care environment is essential. Staff must demonstrate physical fitness and a dedication to maintaining their health, ensuring they can meet the demands of the role effectively. A caring and considerate attitude, along with genuine responsiveness to the needs of elderly residents, is required at all times.

Flexibility and the ability to adapt to change are crucial, as is the capacity to work efficiently and remain calm under pressure. Effective organisational and prioritisation skills are necessary for managing tasks and ensuring high standards of care are consistently upheld.

Honesty, integrity, conscientiousness, and industriousness are expected qualities in all staff members. Previous experience in the care of the elderly or within other healthcare settings is advantageous.

Strong communication skills are important for interacting with residents, colleagues, and management. Staff should possess a good understanding of instructions and be able to follow them accurately. An awareness of strategies that promote and optimise residents’ independence is required, alongside a clear understanding of residents’ rights, advocacy, and the importance of privacy.

Experience with hydronic heating systems, underfloor heating, hot water cylinders and heat pump water heaters will be highly regarded

The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Good communication and teamwork skills

A Full New Zealand Driver Licence (or the ability to obtain one)
