Here's Emotion2. The beautiful catamaran that we had the joy of completing a five-month osmosis repair job on.

We've shown you some pretty gnarly photos of how she was before. Here are some from the work in progress so you can see what goes into a full osmosis repair in the hands of our expert team.

It's a long post but hey, it was a long project!

Emotion2 was too big to haul at Gulf Harbour Marina. Instead, the boat was successfully hauled out at Poplar Road.
Once the boat was set up, we erected a full protective enclosure and began planing back the hulls to assess the condition of the laminate.

Then sanding commenced. Sections of foam were replaced. The extent of the water damage meant we had to remove a substantial amount of compromised fibreglass from both hulls. To restore the structural integrity of the boat, we laminated five new layers of fibreglass over the repaired areas before applying our specialised coating system.

The hulls were then carefully faired, spot-filled, undercoated, and prepared for antifouling.

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring the vessel was completely dry before rebuilding. To achieve this, we installed multiple drainage pumps to continuously remove trapped moisture and utilised our specialised hot vacuum blanket drying system. This drying process was essential and significantly extended the project timeline.

The client was extremely pleased with the finished project. Not only did the catamaran leave with structurally sound, fully restored hulls, but the removal of more than 200 litres of trapped water also resulted in a noticeably lighter vessel when it was relaunched, improving both performance and efficiency.

Katinka! You beauty. 🌼

To support our new partners The International SeaKeepers Society, we got on with a restoration of this lovely yellow keeler over winter. Katinka was donated to Seakeepers to support their work.

Jan says:

“To help modernise the boat, we donated a brand-new Flexiteek synthetic teak deck. The deck has now been manufactured and is ready for installation. Before it is laid, we'll be repainting the coachroof to ensure the finish is completed to the highest standard.”

“As part of the refit, we've also given the hull a thorough wet sand and scraped back the waterline, where years of antifouling had built up to a significant thickness. These preparations will help restore Katinka to her former glory and provide a solid foundation for the next stage of the project.”

It's still winter. It's still the smartest time for boat maintenance. ❄️

Winter offers some real advantages:

• Better availability for haul-outs and specialist contractors
• More time to complete several jobs during one yard visit
• Less stress and fewer delays as summer approaches
• Your boat is ready to launch and enjoy when the weather warms up

Whether you're planning repairs, antifouling, Flexiteek decking or a refit, now is the perfect time to get into it.
