Lillian was built by Carey’s Boatbuilders in Picton to an extremely exacting standard and finished to a high-quality pleasure Launch standard. She is a very capable Passage Maker with offshore potential. Her Hull pedigree evolved from many Carey Vessels built for the New Zealand fishery.

Built for Gordon Abernethy of Blenheim: Lillian was 5th boat he had built and the 17th he had owned. She is named after his Mother-in-law, Gordon was an extremely experienced Mariner and ensured that the build was fastidious. He attended Carey’s Boat Yard in Picton on an almost daily basis during the build. Gordon retired from the Sea due to health problems and sold Lillian to her current owners in 2016.

Ray Beale surveyed her for the current owners in 2016 and observed that he ranked her in the top 5% of boats he surveyed in terms of build quality and strength.

There are some impressive boats in the market today but when I viewed this vessel for the first time I was stunned by the design and the build quality. The finish inside and out of this vessel is really incredible and a must to view to appreciate the finish and build quality. Its 18.25 m in length with a 5 m beam, fitted with a 650hp Scania, that only burns 12.8 litres at 8.3 knots and can achieve 17 knots. Accommodation for 6, in 3 cabins. An air-conditioned main cabin and with a superb Galley that has a large double-door fridge perfectly located with a freezer and ice maker. The helm station is so impressive with its angled and wrap-around glass, it is a great feature of the vessel and contributing to making the best helm station, with all the electronics at your fingertips including bow and stern thrusters to make maneuvering effortless and safe. This is a great seaboat that will always keep you safe. The vessel also has a spacious cockpit along with a stunning flybridge.

This Kiwi design and built masterpiece that would have to be one of the best examples available today for sale, after being totally re-crafted by Kevin Hilt that was completed in December 2022,that consisted of starting at square one and removing the engines and adding an extension to the hull of just over a meter in length and the boat was stripped to hull and decks and the hull fared prior to painting to take the mould wrinkles out. Charade was repowered with twin Volvo D4 -260 EVC engines rated at 260 HP on shaft drive that only have around 100 hrs of use, the engines include fuel computer software, electronic throttles with auto engine sync, and VOLVO E – Key remote. A Volvo 7 “engine display screen is fitted to the flybridge. The whole boat is completely re-wired with the latest Navigation, refrigeration and lighting, and battery systems including a Fischer Panda 5000i Neo Generator which results in variable speed to make it more efficient, and a water separator to reduce noise.

The vessel’s electronics bow thruster and many of the other items that are all new to the boat are under warranty from now or very recently depending on when they we fitted in the boat which is great.

During the rebuild Kevin Hilt, the boat builder made everything removable to enable access to tanks engine exhausts and so much more and was very cleverly done. Complete new paint inside and out with special attention to detail to achieve an outstanding end result that the boat is now, an outstanding example of a great Salthouse design and a must to inspect so you can understand what has been done to achieve this impressive result.
