Really want to get amongst the waves, but have a surf beach to launch from?

We don't always get it right the first time so play it safe!

⛵️Find a spot on the beach where there is a smaller shore break and launch from there.
⛵️Hold the bow at an angle to the waves.
⛵️Stand with your back to the wind (upwind of the boat so the boat doesn't run you over!)
⛵️ Ask someone to hold the bow while you set up and pull the mainsail in.

We will be holding a demo Day on Sunday 30th November at Royal Akarana YC Orakei

These boat owners were thinking ahead about their life long dream - cruising around the world with their kids.
They wanted to try something that would keep their kids engaged and learning and at the same time satisfy performance needs of the adults.

They met me in NZ and tried it out and I gave their kids a lesson in dinghy sailing and they loved it!

They now keep their TIWAL partially inflated and under a cover on the deck or packed neatly away into two bags when they don't need it.

Sometimes the right boat doesn’t have to fit your boat size… it can fit your family.

Craving speed and exhilaration on the water?

Nick (pictured below in Geelong) rediscovered the thrill of sailing in his 50s with the TIWAL 3R — a dinghy that’s quick to rig, fast on the water, and seriously fun in 15–20 knots.

"I hadn’t sailed for a number years when I discovered the TIWAL 3R. An opportunity to attend a demonstration day and speak to TIWAL owners quickly convinced me that I could return to the sport (now in my mid 50’s) with a boat that I could easily store in the garage at home and transport in the back of my car in two bags without the need of a trailer and registration.

The TIWAL makes sailing very mobile and I have travelled interstate several times to try new sailing locations. The ease of setting up and rigging the TIWAL 3R means a second person is not needed and therefore more time on the water. The detailed instruction booklet provided and the tutorial videos online will get anyone on the water really quickly.

Sailing the TIWAL is straight forward and its performance in winds 15 to 20 knots is impressive making it a very exhilarating ride. In lighter winds it is just as enjoyable. Righting the dingy after tipping is easy and it is surprising how quickly you can get up and get going again.

I have been very impressed with how durable and rigid the inflatable hull is. The fittings and construction is of high quality and after plenty of sailing on fresh and salt water, the TIWAL still looks new. There has been next to no wear. TIWAL has paid attention to every detail making the dinghy best in class.

The support and follow up provided by Melinda has been fantastic. I am an advocate for this dingy for anyone wanting to start sailing for the first time or to return to sailing without the hassle."

"The Tiwal is just a nice way of gently snubbing my dad"

When I turned about 20, I asked my father whether I could take his boat out by myself. He refused. So I told him as a challenge: "Ok dad I will design and make my own boat" says Marion Excoffon.
Less than 2 years later (after many drawings, ideas and models), he was surprised to discover the first prototype of an inflatable boat.

As a designer, I didn't want to design 'just another boat'. Many sailing lovers dreamed about having their own sailboat, but that comes with many constraints. The TIWAL was born from a desire to make leisure sailing accessible to most sailors and to refocus on pure pleasure. My challenge was to design a sailboat that would be easily transportable, user-friendly, high performing and above all, a fun boat!

And the happy end is that my father now lends me his boat!

Practice stopping 20 metres out before you come ashore.
- Stop the boat by letting the sail go and turn slightly into the wind.
- Have a good look at the angle you want to come at the shore and imagine sailing that angle and how you will stop.

Are you on the right gybe to turn the boat into the wind and stop?
Have you lifted your rudder up a little?
Will lifting the centreboard a little help you slip sideways to land in the spot you want to land?

You know your love for being on the water hasn’t gone away, even if life has been too full to make space for it.

Last weekend was the annual Women’s Day out where some wonderful boat owners provided opportunities to get on the water for girls and women of all levels, beginner or advanced. The Women on Water ladies from Tauranga joined us on board 'Perfect Storm'.
