JAFA Racing

JAFA Racing Race hard and drink harder At its heart, JAFA Racing is a drinking team with a racing problem - the poisons of choice being Lion Red and high octane petrol.

Six members of the NZ HSV Owners Club headed to Manfield Raceway for the weekend in September 1999 to compete in a club sprint meeting. As we were always getting a bit of stick from those south of the Bombay's we decided that that we would rark them up so we formed JAFA Racing which stands for “Just Another Fast Aucklander”. After printing tee shirts and putting signage on the three cars, JAFA Rac

ing headed off to Manfield to enter its inaugural event. The successes at Manfield led to an explosion in membership and numbers grew from 6 to 14 overnight. JAFA Racing entered one of the race cars, a 1989 HSV SV89, in the 2000 Dunlop Targa in which JAFA Racing received widespread TV coverage and publicised its great name around the central North Island. The JAFA Racing crew handed out large doses of the classic Jaffa as the Team raced its way through the country side spreading the good word from Auckland. JAFA Racing carried on with its successful Targa calling and competed in the 2001 Dunlop Targa as well as the 2002, 2003 and 2004 Targa Bambina events. In 2006, three JAFA Racing cars competed in the NZ Super Sedans race series. Not wanting to stop there, JAFA Racing also contested the last seven Auckland Domain Hill Climbs, as well as Rally Sprints, and the Ruakaka Street Sprint. This was followed by joining GTRNZ, where three of the JAFA Racing cars battled the grid for a podium. Today, JAFA Racing can be found at a number of events around the country – NZ HSV Owners Club sprints, GTRNZ, Commodore Car Club Clubmans Series, and the Auckland Car Club Racing Series to name a few. This is in addition to appearances at the ITM 400 Hamilton and Top Gear Live.

2002 saw the first of many JAFA Racing overseas expeditions that has taken the Team to a number of V8 Supercar events in Queensland, Victoria and NSW. Team apparel is second to none with plenty of “hand overs” of our team shirts to our Aussie supporters at these events. The 2005 tour to Melbourne for the Sandown 500 included an exclusive invitation to the HSV factory where we were warmly greeted with a sign at the entrance - “HSV Welcomes JAFA Racing”. Team members all have personalised plates of some description - JAFA 01, JAFA 02, CPT JOE, and CPT SLO just to mention a few. All vehicles are also fitted with club number plate surrounds. JAFA Racing is also credited with a number of exceptional movies that will be shown at a Club Movie night later in the year. This will be combined with exclusive footage of JAFA Racing in action at several events over the years including Targa, NZ Super Sedans, Super GT, Hill Climb, and the ITM 400 Hamilton. JAFA Racing is pleased to be associated with the NZ HSV Owners Club, HSV Australia, and Camel Toe Racing in West Auckland.

First outing for the new car; #52. A bit of a slow start with 2 free tow truck rides, and trying to track down some issues. A little bit of work to do and definitely need some new shoes for it; but it looks promising

Car 62 has been passed on to a new younger prospect; he needs to work on his drinking. Watch this space for our new car
