Thank you Paul
I recently caught up with Peter and Samantha the owners of P&S Autocentre in East Tamaki a successful business with a strong reputation for providing outstanding service in their busy mechanical workshop.
Peter and Samanthas’ story goes back to Zimbabwe, where over a number of years they built a successful workshop business, but in 2001 because of the changing environment in Zimbabwe, they decided to bring their family to Auckland.
After a short time in Auckland, Peter and Samantha decided to take a leap of faith and back themselves to start from scratch P&S Autocentre. Some 24 years later the business has continued to grow, Peter and Samantha have developed an outstanding reputation in East Auckland, as a “go to guy” when something is a bit difficult to fix, particularly as regards BMW vehicles.
Initially like all new businesses it took time to develop a reputation, but in talking to Peter there is one instance that proved defining and the “ignition” to start the 24 years of growth. A local retailer had for many months been trying to have a mechanical issue fixed on his van, at various mechanics in East Auckland. The retailer approached Peter (a brand-new business with no established reputation) on the off chance, that he may perform a miracle and fix what others could not. Van was delivered in the afternoon and by the next morning it was back with the retailer, problem fixed! That one repair created a wave of referrals from this influential retailer, that gave Peter and Samantha a good number of new customers to build their business upon.
With continuing investment in technology P&S Autocentre can complete a wide array of services including, rebuilding BMW race car engines, most model fuel injection systems, remedying air leaks, emission testing through to wheel alignment. Over the years Peter has seen an increase in Japanese cars through the workshop, as his client base in East Auckland broadens and the “carpark” of vehicles owned in the area changes.
Developing apprentices is a keen interest of Peters’, as he believes in helping bring the next generation of skilled mechanics through the business. Over the years Peter has trained several apprentices, all of whom have gone on to lead teams of their own in major workshops.
Motor racing (BMW series) is a passion of the entire family with Peter 2025’s North Island Champion in his class BMW 2 Litre, his son won the BMW E46 class and one of his team won a third class. So out of the 5 classes in the BMW North Island racing series for 2025, vehicles serviced, set up and driven by members of P&S Autocentre took out 3 titles. Not to be out done Samantha is heavily involved in providing catering for the series.
It goes without saying, you will normally find a BMW being serviced in readiness for the next meet, with customers from throughout the North Island seeking help to set their vehicles up.
Having been in business in East Auckland for 24 years, Peter and Samantha are now serving multiple generations of a family as they continue to deliver outstanding service.
Clearly Peter and Samanthas’ approach to business has allowed them continuously build a very successful business.
