I've been in the motor industry for 53 years and have owned Rod Milner Motors for 34 years. We offer a wide range of vehicles but in particular I have a special interest in people with disabilities. My late wife had to use a wheelchair when she was very ill, and I immediately realized the shortcomings in the quantity and quality of vehicles available for the disabled. I was the founding chairman of the Imported Motor Vehicle Dealers Association and am a member of VANZ. As you will see from the vehicles in stock, we carry a wide range of vehicles. We have a large range of disability vehicles of all different types and I'm sure we will have a suitable vehicle for you. Rod Milner Motors will always go the extra mile to ensure all our vehicles meet the very high standards required. We consider your safety of paramount importance and conduct careful checks to ensure the correct anchorages are installed and the rear hoist meets the required standard. You need to be very careful when purchasing a vehicle with the rear hoist as a lot of the vehicles in the market would not meet the standards set for the carrying of a disabled person. At Rod Milner Motors most of our customers buy for the long term. The average client keeps their vehicle for 8 years so buying a low mileage car makes sense. It was fantastic to see Hōhepa Auckland investing not only in a modern accessible vehicle, but also in the people who use them every day.

Recently we provided a comprehensive operator training to staff in the safe use of lifts, wheelchair restraints and passenger safety. This helps ensure every journey is comfortable, dignified and, most importantly, safe.

It's encouraging to work with organisations that genuinely put the people they support at the centre of everything they do.

Meet Sefa Saamu, our Rentals Manager! 🙌 After 3 years working at Milner Mobility as 2IC to Bond, who has now retired, Sefa has moved into the role of managing our rental fleet. Learn more about him below 👇

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy making a real difference in someone's life. Being able to provide mobility vehicles for people with disabilities and help meet their individual needs is incredibly rewarding. The best part is seeing them regain their independence, get to the places they want and need to go, and not be restricted by their disability. Knowing that our service helps make that possible is what I enjoy most about my job.

One notable interaction I had was with a customer who booked Charly for a road trip around New Zealand. They were excited to explore the country, and I was able to explain how Charly gives them the freedom to travel at their own pace without having to worry about booking accommodation, as they can stay in the campervan throughout their journey. I also shared recommendations on some of New Zealand's most scenic destinations and hidden gems to help them make the most of their trip. Seeing how excited they were about the adventure and knowing I had helped them plan a memorable experience made the interaction especially rewarding.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love watching sports, especially rugby, football, boxing, and UFC. I also enjoy getting outdoors for a walk and staying active whenever I can.

I've always believed that when it comes to mobility solutions, there's no substitute for being able to try something for yourself.

That's why we've added a portable BraunAbility 6-Way Transfer Seat to the Milner Mobility showroom. It gives people the opportunity to safely trial the equipment and see whether it's the right fit for their needs before making a decision.

In our industry, every situation is different. Having a safe environment where clients, families and occupational therapists can test solutions firsthand leads to better outcomes and greater confidence in the equipment selected.

It's a small addition to the showroom, but one that I think will make a real difference for many people exploring their options”.
