At the end of a regatta, when energy is low, time is tight and you’re in a loading dock or crowded carpark, trying to pack bulky, awkward gear into containers - that is nobody’s favourite task.
That’s where smart support boat design makes all the difference.
Salthouse Coach Boats are built with efficient pack-down systems that allow them to roll easily into containers while still leaving valuable space for extra equipment and gear. Thoughtful logistics design means less stress, faster pack-downs and more efficient travel between events — taking some of the nightmare out of life on the road.

Before any regatta — whether it’s at a local club level or on the world stage — there’s a huge amount of work happening behind the scenes.
For the 38th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta, the on-water team has completed the recommissioning and rebranding phase, with the fleet ready to hit the water for testing and operational setup. From race marks and camera boats to the countless other moving parts that keep a course running smoothly, these boats play a key role in making that happen.
Now the real fun begins...

Here we go again… the first preliminary regatta of the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup kicks off in Cagliari from May 21–24, and 15 Salthouse Marshall Boats are finally breaking free from storage and heading back onto the water.

After months tucked away, the unload and recommissioning process has been remarkably seamless — a satisfying nod to the quality of build and materials used, and the simplicity and reliability of systems.

Now the countdown is on to see the fleet back where it belongs over the coming weeks… on the water and in the thick of the action. 👍

The yard has been pretty hectic lately with a regular flow of boats, but last night we welcomed a new set of owners for the handover and reveal of their 6.2m Salthouse Coach Boat and it highlighted the heart of why we build boats.
While our coach boats are smaller than the coastal cruisers and racing yachts we built in years gone by, the excitement of introducing owners to their new vessel hasn’t changed at all. The same pride, same attention to detail, and the same focus on getting every element right for each individual owner is still at the centre of what we do.
Boats are never just boats. They’re a gateway to time on the water, to shared adventures, and to family and friends exploring everything the ocean has to offer.
When John Salthouse founded Salthouse Boatbuilders 70 years ago, that sense of pride and satisfaction — seeing families experience boating through something we built for them—was what drove him. Last night, that same feeling was very much alive and kicking.
Thank you to all our 'new owners' past and present - its a priviledge 🙏

New Zealand is a nation of innovators and ocean people. If you spend time on the water anywhere in the world, you will know our oceans are in trouble, and need our help. 🌊
Jono Ridler is leading the way with his powerful dream to swim the length of the North Island and raise awareness of New Zealand still bottom trawling seamounts in our own waters, and the only nation still bottom trawling seamounts in the South Pacific high seas.
Swim4TheOcean started at Waikuku Beach at North Cape at the very top of the north island – Jono is aiming to swim down the entire east coast to Wellington. All up it’ll likely take around three months.
We need the New Zealand Government to end bottom trawling on all seamounts – at home and in the high seas by the end of 2027 – and to activate a quick transition away from bottom trawling entirely.
