⚡️ What’s happening with NZ’s Clean Car Standard? And will it push EV prices up?
Here’s the quick version 👇

🔧 Offsetting Factors

➡️ From 1 Jan 2026, Clean Vehicle Standard charges are being cut by almost 80%.
➡️ Importers will pay $15 per gram of CO₂ instead of $67.50 for new vehicles, and $7.50 per gram instead of $33.75 for used vehicles — meaning much lower compliance costs.
➡️ The government is protecting CO₂ credits until 2028, giving importers more flexibility.
➡️ NZ is aligning CO₂ targets with Australia, opening up a bigger, more affordable supply of vehicles.

💰 So… what does this mean for EV prices?

EV prices are likely to rise in the new year, especially from importers who bring in only EVs.
Why? Because the value of CO₂ credits per EV is dropping significantly, meaning importers may need to increase prices by thousands to offset the reduced credit income.

⚡️ So should you buy an EV now?

Absolutely.
Most EV dealers (including us!) have already cashed in their higher-value CO₂ credits for the stock currently on the yard — meaning we can offer EVs at much more affordable prices right now.
