🚚EROAD Fleet Days 2026: 🚎

Smart Environmental was proud to have a strong presence at EROAD Fleet Days 2026, held at Mystery Creek, Hamilton on 5–6 August.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, this year’s event was the biggest yet, bringing together fleet professionals from across New Zealand and Australia to discuss the future of fleet management, safety, sustainability and technology.

The programme covered plenty of ground — from the increasing sophistication of fleet technology and Scope 1–3 emissions reporting, through to the future of telematics across light and heavy vehicle fleets.
Safety and sustainability were also front and centre, with operators and suppliers sharing practical insights into what is delivering real results on the ground.

A particular highlight for Smart Environmental was being invited onto the Main Stage to take part in the “What Good Looks Like” Masterclass.
We joined Fulton Hogan and Team Global Express to discuss driver performance and fleet safety, sharing our experience with EROAD’s Five-Star Driver programme.

Smart Environmental has consistently performed at the top of the industry in this area, having been recognised on several occasions as the number-one ranked operator for five-star driver performance.
One theme was consistent across all three organisations:
Safer driving is good for people and good for business.

Better driving behaviours contribute to fewer incidents, reduced vehicle wear and operating costs, improved equipment reliability and, most importantly, safer roads for everyone.

We’re proud of what our teams have achieved and even prouder that the work being done by our drivers every day is being recognised across the industry.

🏁 That’s a wrap, Highlands. 👋

After a big race month at Highlands Motorsport Park, Tyrecycle NZ has been in to collect hundreds of used tires—making sure they don’t sit around trackside. ( we are literally around the corner from them)

The Michelin Man is waving goodbye to the circuit… and hello to its next chapter. ♻️These race tyres are now on their way to be processed into TDF (tyre-derived fuel)—turning race-day rubber into usable energy and helping keep tyres out of landfills.

Big thanks to the Highlands team for engaging Tyrecycle NZ Ltd. We try to make the collection as smooth as a fresh set of slicks. 💪

Across Aotearoa, the Tyrewise scheme is proving what’s possible when an entire industry pulls in the same direction.

At Tyrecycle NZ, we’re proud to be part of the engine room making it happen — the collections, the logistics, the processing, the shredding, and the constant focus on doing the job properly, safely, and at scale.

Massive credit to our team — drivers, yard crews, plant operators, admin, and everyone behind the scenes — and to our partners across the country. You’re the reason 2025 had pace… and why 2026 is looking even bigger.

🎄Cheers to a Smarter Year Ahead 🎄💚

As we head into Christmas and the end of the working season for many businesses, we just want to say a huge thank you to our customers, councils, partners, and communities—and an even bigger shout-out to our Smart Environmental Ltd (Smart Group) teams across the country who’ve kept things moving day in, day out.

This year we’ve made strong progress on our Toitū journey, keeping the focus on measuring, improving, and reducing our environmental impact—with more to come. And just as importantly, it’s been great to see our Gallup engagement survey results improve year-on-year, reflecting the effort teams have put into building a stronger, safer, more supportive workplace.

While our customers are recharging over the holiday break, we begin our busiest period and are ready to hit the ground running into the New Year.

End of week wrap from Tyrecycle NZ 🛞♻️

This photo is from our shredding plant — where end-of-life tyres get turned into a real resource, not a problem.

Here’s the journey:
Imported → retailed → used → collected → processed (shredded into Tyre Derived Fuel -TDF) → sent to Golden Bay Cement for co-processing.

Why it matters:
✅ Tyres are kept out of stockpiles and landfill
✅ TDF burns cleaner than coal
✅ Lower reliance on virgin fossil fuel while putting waste to work
✅ A more circular, compliant pathway through the Tyrewise network

🍾Celebrating a big milestone for tyre stewardship in Aotearoa 🚀♻️

Tyrewise has just released its first annual report – and the numbers tell an awesome story of what’s possible when an industry pulls together.

⏲️In just 13 months, the scheme has:
Collected 36,801 tonnes of tyres – that’s around 4.6 million passenger tyres given a new life 💪

🌐Brought together 4,624 registered partners right across the tyre supply chain.

🏭Supported 86 public collection sites in 13 regions, making it easier than ever for Kiwis to do the right thing with their old tyres.

At Tyrecycle NZ, we see this impact every day. The image below is our Auckland baling site, where we handle thousands of tyres every week out of this one facility. This complements our other baling and shredding sites across the country – all working to turn end-of-life tyres into new opportunities, products and jobs.

Huge kudos to the Tyrewise team and all the partners who’ve helped get the scheme to this point. Year one ✅
