VRFord Cortina

VRFord Cortina VRFord 1969 Mk2 Ford Cortina. Mitsubishi Galant E39S VR4. (1988) VR4, Evo0. I wanted to buy an old Cortina to restore, a project born out of nostalgia.

In February 1978 (the week I turned 15) with dads help I got my driver’s licence and bought my first car, a 1969 1300cc MkII Cortina, I paid $2200 dollars for it. My Cortina gave me my first sense of independence and growing up and of course lots of great memories.

32 years later in 2010 (then 47) I started looking for another MkII. After a couple of years I found this 1969 MkII Cortina and on th

e 21st June 2012 I bought it sight unseen for $6k. It was transported home from Tauranga, it was then that I saw this was going to be a pretty big project… a complete strip down, restore, repaint and reassemble. I wasn’t expecting to buy a modified Cortina that had a Mitsubishi Evo turbo engine and all the Japanese running gear etc. however this has really made the restore project lots of fun. I wanted to remove the custom dashboard and replace it with an original wooden one. The car required extensive panel, internal and engine work. About two years later, thousands of hours and dollars, I completed the restoration project. I am very proud of my restored 1969 MkII Cortina.

While the engine is out being reconditioned, I have the Cortina at Elite Panel and Paint in Penrose. Preparing and painting the engine bay. Found a few "sins" under the old paint/bog arrr.
Back to bare metal and welded up 16 unused holes in the engine bay.

Mr Blue dropped off by the towie today. Got to love AA Plus Insurance. Broke down in Palmy last week at the Cortina Club Nationals. Needs a wash, so hope ACC doesn't catch me using the garden hose!
Then I have to work out what went wrong. Think it is either the Link ECU or one of the sensors.

Have the new number plates from the Cortina PN Nationals on the garage wall.
