Should you wait to do your restricted licence after October 1 when there are no resit fees?
Around 38% of people fail the restricted test the first time, so there is a chance that you will have to pay twice (or more) to pass the restricted test, but if you wait until October you'll just pay one higher price. If you pass first time after October 1, you'll have paid more than you would if you do it before, but if you fail first time and need to take it again, you'll have paid less.
If you need a restricted licence to get a job, waiting until October 1 is a false economy, as you won't be able to work until after October 1, whereas you can do it now, get a job and bring in more money than you would potentially save by waiting.
If you wait until after October 1, you won't have the benefits of being on a restricted licence for 5.5 months - that freedom to drive by yourself between 5am and 10pm.
Because the price is going up for the first attempt, there may be a spike in demand in September - people will try to get the first test done at today's cheaper rate, but have the benefit of a free resit after October 1 (assuming all resits are free regardless of when the first test was done, which it seems they will be); test bookings in September could be very tight!
Ultimately, it's up to you: if you think you are well-prepared and will be one of the approximately 62% that pass the first time, doing it now will save you money, and you'll have the opportunity to get a job that requires a restricted licence. If you're not confident you're well-prepared, you don't need to drive alone and your job doesn't depend on a licence, by all means wait until after October 1.

Are we getting less and less courteous while ? What bad attitudes have you experienced from other drivers? Studies and anecdotal evidence seems to say we are becoming less tolerant. So, to be the bigger person (and perhaps avoid a road rage incident), what can you do?

While most people know the basic rules of the road, there are many more unwritten rules or obscure rules that help keep traffic flowing smoothly and reduce incidences of road rage

Councils removing spaces in favour of bus and bike lanes, plus narrow streets, wider vehicles and higher density housing are contributing to drivers parking half on the footpath. But is it ?

If car parking is removed from arterial roads, and new developments are allowed to proliferate with insufficient parking, vehicles are going to spill into suburban side streets, some of which aren't designed to have cars parked on both sides.

Eventually our main centres will look like European city centres. If you've ever tried to park in Rome, you'll know why almost every car has some kind of scratch or dent!

Narrow streets and a lack of off-street parking are often causes of people parking on the footpath, so that they don't get their wing mirrors clipped by other motorists

Feeling tired? Changing the clocks makes it more dangerous to be driving and, for those of you that have young children, you might have had a wakeup call an hour earlier than usual the last couple of days (for us, it was 5:05am this morning...)

When the clocks go back an hour, accident rates rise. Why is this? This article tells you the main factors that cause it.

Diet and nutrition choices on the road are tricky. That's why we partnered with TR Group and ABC Nutrition to produce a free course aimed specifically at truck drivers and heavy machinery operators.

It helps all drivers understand the right choices for food and hydration on the job, and contains interviews with 10 experienced drivers who share their stories and tips.

The course will be free until July 31, so feel free to sign up below.
