Each little certificate has a big story.

"I was devastated when I failed the full test two times even when I've been driving overseas. Thank you for encouraging and telling me not to give up, that third time is a charm."

“Thank you very much for the free English classes and I hope these classes continue. These courses are especially important for migrants who are not former refugees or residents and who often do not receive any type of support, even though we struggle every single day with the language barrier, visa applications, mental health issues, etc.”

"Thank you so so much for all your help for my restricted licence. This has really helped me and my family especially in our times of difficulties. Super grateful for all your support."

Remember to drive to conditions and increase following distance in wet conditions.

With winter setting in, you’ll be travelling in wet, icy, or even snowy conditions – adjust your driving to keep yourself and other people safe.

Turn your headlights on so you're more visible. Have your lights dipped when you’re around other people.

Slow down when it’s wet or icy – it takes longer to stop in wet weather.

You also need to increase your following distance so when you do need to slow down or stop, you have enough room between yourself and the person in front of you.

Be prepared before you head out, especially when it’s very cold or it is snowing. Make sure you’ve got enough range or fuel in case of detours – we’ll be closing state highways when conditions worsen.

Before you set off, enter your destination into our website for real-time travel info showing delays and road closures you may experience along your journey: https://www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz

Remember to book a driving assessment or mock test to check if you are ready for the practical driving test. Book through pcds.co.nz

Driver licence test fees are changing from 8 July 2024. The application fee for sitting a car licence test will cover two tests – if you need a third test or more you'll have to pay for each time you sit the test.

There’s very high demand for tests, and wait times have been made longer by many people sitting their test without being prepared and taking several attempts before they pass. This change will encourage people to be well-prepared before booking a test.

People applying to convert their overseas licence to a New Zealand car licence will pay an application fee and a fee for each test.

Our website has more information on the change and resit fees: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/test-fee-changes
