ENTERING THE TWILIGHT ZONE - SUPPORT THE CLUBS ......... and we're off. The season is officially underway, and the mid-week club racing along with it.

If you haven't committed to a summer series then for the sake of your local club, the class and the sport, we would encourage you to do so.

9 out of 10 psychologists say that mid-week twilight racing is a great escape from work and benefits overall health 😉

SHAKING OFF THE RUST .. NORTH SAILS YOUNG88 SPRINTS - FREE PRACTICE NIGHT
Good thing we decided not to make last night part of the series points. All boats and crews were waking from winter slumber apart from Flash Gordon.....and we all got caught out for a cheeky poke in the attached video of the fleet's woeful start in race 1 🤣🤣

Perfect conditions per the PredictWind forecast, SW 8-14 saw us west of the bridge with an unbiased track and shifty breeze to keep us on our toes

Big thanks like always to Race Officer Dave West from NBYC and volunteers from both co-host clubs. Special thanks to Cameron from the MRX fleet on water with sage advice .. eg "ease main and let the boat climb in the gusts at the same time especially in flat water".

The Trace Trace Tracker app worked perfectly with Alex one of the founders also coming along to the aftermatch debrief in the Squaddy Members Bar to show us what it was about and award a very nice bottle of rum to first finisher running Trace. Refer to the attached impromptu video explanation of the insights you can get from the app

Nick 2 bowman off War Machine took home the crew draw spot prize.

The new MySail crew recruitment / management tech worked well with gaps filled right up to the last minute and with extra available crew having to sit it out on the bench .. sorry about that, rotation for next Sprints?.

SPRINTING INTO SUMMER & BLAST FROM THE PAST
This Thursday night sees the fleet kick off summer twilight sailing with the North Sails Young 88 Sprints as part of the combined NBYC / RNZYS /Class "City of Sails Sprint Series"

Young 88 supporter PredictWind have lined up a perfect forecast of sunshine and 10-15kt SW and almost slack tide. The MySail crew page is stacked with keen racers, so "can't find good crew"is no longer an excuse.

We are trialling the new "Trace" tracking/analysis app in this series. Alex from Trace will be on hand with our coach's input on Thursday night after racing in the Squaddy Members bar to replay the Trace track and talk about the app analytics, what happened and why, over a drink special and free chips courtesy Y88 Association.

The attached video is from the days before headsails went black and race boats exited Westhaven to build great race fleets in places with lower costs (Akaroa/Lyttleton).

We are working hard to rebuild numbers, focusing on coaching/learning and fun, having managed to lose the overly competitive/agressive edge 🤬🤬 to 😂🤣

We've been busy planning and gearing up for the summer and WE NEED YOU - SKIPPERS & CREW to sign on and sign up to the various Young 88-hosted and Y88-supported club events. This is not just for the jaffas; it applies to the fleets from the Bay of Islands to Akaroa.

The Y88 "marquee" event kicking things off is the City of Sails Sprints Series https://www.young88.org.nz/events/376041 starting next Thursday!! We are ringing in the changes and trialling the Trace app for detailed tracking and analysis and mysail.team for crew recruitment and management.

The focus is on getting new boats and new crew out, coaching and learning... and it's a bloody good fun way to break up the work week!

The sprint beside the Harbour Bridge is followed by the Young 88 division sprint to Russell for the PIC Coastal Classic then the North Sails Northern Owners Champs.
