When “no acceleration” turns into “oh… that’s expensive”

This Sea-Doo came in feeling a bit lazy…

Pulled the jet pump out and the driveshaft was just spinning like it had no responsibilities in life.

Quick investigation turned into:

💥 crunchy noises
💥 loose metal bits
💥 wallet crying in the background

Safe to say… she’s well and truly cooked.

This Sea-Doo rolled in with stiff steering, lazy IBR, and the feeling something wasn’t quite right… so off came the jet pump to investigate.

What started as “just pull the pump” quickly turned into a battle with salt build-up, seized components, rocks, and hardware that clearly hadn’t moved in a long time.

Well… this 5 litre MerCruiser wasn’t running right, so we pulled it apart to investigate — and things escalated pretty quickly.

From crunchy hoses…
to corrosion city…
to a blown intake manifold gasket letting water into the cylinders…

Let’s just say… it wasn’t getting better as we went.

Nothing says “day off” like rebuilding Yamaha carbs and a jet pump…

Honestly, there’s something weirdly relaxing about being off the water for five minutes and getting technical

Carbs and Jet unit stripped cleaned and reassembled....brain reset....

Back to Barrier tomorrow… and then a casual little 10-day voyage kicking off Saturday. No rest for the wicked (or the mechanically obsessed).

🚨 BRAID ATTACK! 🚨

This is what we found wrapped around a prop shaft during a recent service.
Fishing braid had been there for a long time — unnoticed and doing quiet damage.

Over time, braid can work its way past the prop and cut into output shaft seals, allowing water into the gearbox.

By the time it shows symptoms, you’re often looking at major (and expensive) repairs instead of a simple service.

This is exactly why regular servicing and small checks matter.
What starts as a bit of braid, w**d, or fishing line can turn into:

• Water-contaminated oil
• Bearing damage
• Gearbox failure
