While servicing the vehicle, we also checked a spanner warning on the dash, which related to the stop/start system and an anti-theft transmitter fault.

Both issues were diagnosed and rectified, and the vehicle was left running as it should.

The cause turned out to be a worn starter motor bearing, which eventually led to the starter not engaging at all.
