HOW MANY CRANKS ARE IN THIS PICTURE?
A couple of cranks we have had in recently. Showing two ends of the spectrum of sizes we work on here.
The smaller crank is out of a KTM 50sx that was in getting a new rod fitted. Its measurement’s 70mm in diameter and 125mm long.
The larger crank is out of a Caterpillar 3306 engine powering a Steiger tractor that is being restored. Its measurements dwarf the wee 50. 1100mm long main journals 89mm diameter and big end journals 76mm.

I can’t remember ever repairing a David Brown 50TD let alone two at the same time. Both crankshafts needed grinding but main bearings are not available. There is a fix however, bearings from another model can be modified to suit. Pistons and liners are available. One head had an external crack, we used Lock-n-Stitch to repair.

Not an engine part. This is the repair process we used to remedy the broken feed reverse mechanism for a vintage lathe. Our customer called today to say it was back in operation.
