I’ve just completed a full restoration of a GS550E gauge set for an Australian client. It’s back to “as-new” condition! The gear position indicator was broken, so I developed a brand-new replacement. This new indicator will also soon be available in my webshop just like the decal set for the warnings lights. If you’d like the same for your gauges, get in touch! Stick to original quality, not aftermarket.

This CB400F tachometer came in after the owner had already opened it. The bezel ring had been pried off, but I managed to restore and close it so neatly that you’d hardly notice. The internal contamination was cleaned out, everything relubricated, and the tach recalibrated—all while preserving its original patina. Now it’s smooth, accurate, and retains its vintage character—ready to hit the road again!

Every restoration tells a story.

This Honda Z50J1 Monkey speedometer has been carefully restored from a tired, worn instrument to factory-new condition, while preserving every original detail that makes these little bikes so special.

Soon it will take its place on a fully restored Monkey in Sweden, ready for many more decades of adventure.

It’s always a privilege to help keep these iconic motorcycles alive, one gauge at a time.

Sometimes, customers come to me with gauges that have been poorly “restored” by someone who didn’t really know what they were doing. This one, from France, was nearly ruined. But the good news is: I was able to bring it back to its original state, while preserving the patina that tells its story. Now, the client has their old gauge back, restored properly, and it fits perfectly with the rest of their instruments. A true second chance!

Every restoration tells a story.

In this reel, I’m comparing two Honda CB750 K6 tachometers. The first was restored years ago by another company and has now been sent to me for repair. After inspecting it together with the owner, we agreed that an exchange unit would be the best solution.

The second tachometer is one of my concours-restored exchange units, built with the highest possible respect for originality. Wherever possible, original components are preserved, carefully restored, and combined with the correct finishes and factory details.

Sometimes a restoration can look acceptable from a distance. But when you compare it side by side with a true concours restoration, the difference becomes clear.

The owner decided to exchange his tachometer, and I’m grateful he trusted me with his CB750.

What details stand out to you?

I regularly get questions about replacing the CBX1000 voltmeter needle, so I decided to make a dedicated tutorial.

In this video I show exactly how I remove the original needle, fit one of my reproduction needles and dial faces, and calibrate the voltmeter so it reads accurately again.

Hopefully it’ll make your restoration a little easier and give you the confidence to tackle the job yourself. If you find it useful, I’d really appreciate a like, a comment, or a subscription to my YouTube channel. It helps me create more tutorials like this.

Enjoy! 👍 (Link in comments below)

Finding genuine NOS gauges for a Suzuki T500 is becoming increasingly difficult, especially when you’re trying to build a perfectly matching set.

For this Dutch customer’s full restoration project, he had already managed to find an original NOS tachometer. I helped him source the matching NOS speedometer, creating a rare, perfectly matched pair.

But here’s something many people don’t realise: even NOS gauges need servicing. Decades of storage allow lubricants to dry out and internal components to age, despite the gauges never having been used.

That’s why both instruments received a complete internal service before being fitted to the bike. They still look factory fresh, but now they’ll perform just as Suzuki intended.

Besides restoring original gauges, I also help customers source rare and hard-to-find instruments to complete their restoration projects.
