60 years ago. The British spy thriller series, "The Saint", premiered on 4 October 1962.
Central character was Simon Templar (played by Roger Moore as a suave and sophisticated Robin Hood-like adventurer). Templar's car was a white gleaming Volvo P1800.
Did you know?
The P1800 debuted at the 1960 Brussels Motor Show but since Volvo initially lacked the capacity to build its new coupé, the first 6000 full production cars were built by Jensen Motors in West Bromwich.
The original choice for "The Saint" was the Jaguar MkX, but Browns Lane rejected the request to provide its flagship saloon. However, a member of the film crew saw a Volvo in a London showroom and shortly afterwards an ex-demonstrator, registration 71 DXC, arrived at the studios.
