Today, with some assistance, we reinstalled the original engine and gearbox into the Rijkspolitie (Dutch State Police) 914. Having removed the Audi Turbo Diesel engine that had been fitted at a later stage, we are now gathering all the individual components back together with the car.
I have also already acquired the correct police-specific parts for this 914.
This unique, historic Rijkspolitie Porsche 914—dated November 28, 1969—will be given a special place in our showroom, even though the restoration may still take some time. The first step is to source and collect all the necessary replacement parts.

Porsche 914/4 – Alex 12.77

Dutch State Police – General Traffic Service (AVD)
Registration: 93-10-JZ | 1969

This Porsche 914/4 was operated by the General Traffic Service (AVD) of the Dutch State Police as part of an experiment to find a more economical alternative to the Porsche 911.

Built in 1969, the 914/4 was powered by a 1.7-liter air-cooled four-cylinder engine producing approximately 80 hp. It was one of 16 Porsche 914s evaluated by the AVD between 1969 and 1972.

The car, known by the call sign Alex 12.77, was used for motorway patrol, driver training and high-speed exercises, including training at Circuit Zandvoort. Its special police equipment included auxiliary lights, a raised blue emergency beacon and an illuminated “STOP RP” sign.

The crew associated with this car were Rinse Hiddinga, driver, and Hil Koetjé, passenger and observer.

Although innovative and agile, the 914/4 ultimately proved less suitable for the demanding requirements of high-speed police work than the more powerful Porsche 911. The AVD therefore continued with the 911, and the 914s were withdrawn from service around 1972.

Alex 12.77 is a fascinating reminder of this short-lived chapter in the history of the legendary Dutch State Police Porsche patrol cars.

Last Sunday, we enjoyed seeing all the Porsches that took part in the “Heaven911” event.
The Porsches belonging to visitors could also be admired in a dedicated parking area.
It started with some rain, but the sun soon came out in full force to dry everything off.
There was a huge amount of interest in my 914, and I was able to answer the questions of interested enthusiasts in great detail.
