๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ฉ๐ & ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฉ๐โข | Meet Luke from South Africa ๐ฟ๐ฆ๐
He passed his Dutch driving exam after completing our Arrive & Driveโข Crash Course.
This is how Luke experienced Arrive & Driveโข:

You will be prepared exceptionally well, so trust the process. As I was often reminded not to overthink the practical and practical test as you already know what to do and just drive the way you've been taught.
My own tip, keep a good following distance from the car in front as I find (perhaps just me) drivers don't seem to โaskโ to change lanes when they indicate but rather there are โtellingโ you they're coming over, no matter how small the gap! That took some getting used to and still makes me smile. ๐

The biggest difference for me is that it's not just about the number of cars but it's the variety of road users. General driving, approaching a roundabout or anywhere in villages can feel overwhelming at first when you're watching out for bicycles (on one, two or even three wheels), e-bikes, scooters, bromfietsen, snorfietsen, brommobielen, speed pedelecs, mobility scooters, horse riders, tractors and even the occasional horse and cart!
It seems chaotic at first, but once you understand the rules and gain experience, it all starts to make sense.

The biggest one for me was the "uncontrolled intersections" or priority-from-the-right rule.
At first it made absolutely no sense that cars could come from a small side street and have priority over traffic on what looked like the main road. Eventually the penny dropped, and with Anke's help it became second nature.
One funny thing during the driving test was my examiner. He was completely expressionless! I had absolutely no idea whether I was driving brilliantly or making mistakes because he gave away nothing until we arrived back, walked in and only when he sat down did a glimmer of a smile and fist pump appear and what a relief that was. The best thing you can do is stay focused and keep driving the way you've been taught.

My overall experience was excellent as the school was very flexible and always worked around my busy work schedule, which I really appreciated.
Anke is an extremely experienced instructor, and she doesn't just prepare you to pass the driving practical test but also teaches you how to become a safe and confident driver for the long term. That, to me, is the biggest benefit of the Arrive & Drive expat programme.
