Not just a fair weather ship: the Echo Petra in the Kiel Canal ❄️

The CIP3800 series was designed to meet the demanding conditions of the European short-sea trade, where reliability is required regardless of the season. Even in winter conditions, these diesel-electric vessels maintain the high efficiency and performance standards that Conoship is known for. 🏗️

As part of the fleet for Echoship and Vega Reederei, the Echo Petra highlights why the CIP3800 remains our most-sold design to date. It provides a versatile, future-proof solution for operators who need consistent performance year-round. ⚓

Another Successful Leeuwarden Bedrijfsmarkt 🚢

Last Friday, our team headed to Leeuwarden for a day of conversations and connections with Maritime Engineering students and other players in the industry.

In the morning, we presented a case study challenging first and second-year students to think beyond convention and envision a world where nuclear propulsion in shipping is a real possibility. A couple of discussions and drawings later, we got to hear each team present their ideas and share what their approach was to the challenge.💡

We ended the day with some more networking, sharing what role Conoship plays in the maritime world and what possibilities the industry holds.

Thank you to Sv NES for organizing the event and for creating a space where companies and students can connect. It's always good to see the next generation engaging with the future of our industry. 🌊

Three students from Technasium RSG De Borgen in Leek (David van Essen, Thomas Pino, Stef Schuiling) have taken on Conoship's challenge of designing an electric propulsion for a superyacht.⛵️

The hull design was made available by the Maritime Technology program at the Northern University of Applied Sciences Leeuwarden (NHL), after which Conoship determined the displacement. During the project, the students focused on, among other things, selecting the motors and batteries, and they designed the layout of the ship. 🌊

It was a fun and educational process, in which the students got acquainted with yacht construction and ship design. And who knows, perhaps this will leave them wanting more, and one of them will in the future enroll in one of the Dutch shipbuilding programs. On May 18th, the final presentation was held for the teacher, Mr. Petersen, and for Jules Blokhuis of Conoship.

A modern benchmark in Lübeck: the Sardius ⚓

Great to see the Sardius (3.600 tdw) performing reliably at the Lagerhaus Lübeck terminal. Having entered service just recently, this vessel is a prime example of our CIP3600 design in action. Specifically designed for the high-frequency demands of European coastal trade.

She is a sister vessel to the Amadeus Saffier, and recently delivered Olivijn. The Sardius belongs to a series we designed for De Bock Maritiem with a clear focus on the future. The design combines an optimized hull form for fuel efficiency with the maneuverability required for tight inland ports and river navigation, like the Trave in Germany.

The CIP3600 is versatile in handling bulk and breakbulk cargo, paired with a compact and efficient footprint. This makes it a vital asset for ship owners looking to modernize their fleet in an increasingly sustainable market 🚢

Beyond the office, onto the ship 🚢

Last Wednesday, our interns had the opportunity to visit the Niestern Sander shipyard to get a feel of what shipbuilding really looks like. Fortunately, they also got to see the EasyMax 7 taking its shape, and even got to step on board!⚓️

Most of the interns have never been on a shipyard before and this experience was meaningful for the projects they are currently working on:

🔹Designing a new sailing cargo hull that incorporates efficient features from ancient sailing vessel, so the ship primarily relies on sails.
🔹Systems-rearrangement in a cargo ship, potentially integrating modular design.
🔹Showing why port reception infrastructure is the critical bottleneck to scaling onboard CO₂ capture in the maritime sector.
🔹Developing a small nuclear power plant so we can determine the feasibility of nuclear propulsion for cargo ships.

We are so grateful for Kris Klasens who showed us around and explained in detail the beauty behind shipbuilding. 🌊

A perfect alignment in Emden: the Waalvliet 🌬️⚓

When the Waalvliet was spotted in the port of Emden, Germany, the backdrop couldn’t have been more symbolic.

As a key vessel in our CIP3800 series for Hartel Shipping, the Waalvliet represents the same transition seen in the skyline behind her. Just as those turbines harness the wind for the grid, our designs are engineered to harvest that same power for propulsion.

While she's already a leader in efficiency thanks to her optimized hull and diesel-electric setup, the Waalvliet and her sister "Vliet" vessels are built with the future in mind with some (including Waalvliet) already having Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion installed.

In ports like Emden, a hub for renewable energy, it's clear that the maritime industry and the energy sector must be moving hand-in-hand 🌍🚢

At Conoship, we specialize in navigating the technical and regulatory complexities of wind-assist technology, providing the independent expertise and feasibility analysis needed to turn green ambitions into class-ready reality.

The Lady M-Series in Action 💫

There is something truly rewarding about seeing a Conoship design in its natural element. The Lady Mathilde, member of the Lady M-Series from Wijnne Barends, is captured here navigating the dramatic exit of Pasajes, Spain.

The Lady M-series remains a core example of our "Innovation that Works" philosophy. These multi-purpose vessels were designed to be versatile, reliable, and efficient workhorses, and seeing them perform years later across the European coastlines confirms the strength of that architectural DNA ⚓🧡

Our CIP Series keeps moving fast when conditions get rough and we have the data to prove it 📊

Our CIP Series is one of the most sustainable designs for general cargo vessels, and we now have real-world data to validate it. We believe data is the perfect magnifying glass for the numbers our designs deliver, and this is where Green Maritime gives us a helping hand.

Green Maritime provided fuel consumption data based on the flow meter data from our CIP vessels, which we compared against modern diesel-direct vessels in the same size category. The results are telling: combined with our internal data warehouse, we can use the fuel data from Green Maritime to prove that our vessels are sailing much faster with the same fuel consumption. This takes you the extra distance without additional fuel cost. 🔋

Alongside already 30% savings on greenhouse gas emissions compared to the average general cargo vessel in the market, these numbers paint a consistent picture: our designs perform in the real world, not just on paper. 🚢

We appreciate Green Maritime's assistance in delivering us the relevant data so we can ensure that we remain transparent and steered in the right direction.🌊
