Solar Team Eindhoven

Solar Team Eindhoven Solar Team Eindhoven builds the car of the future, all powered by the sun. Solar Team Eindhoven will participate in the World Solar Challenge every two years.

This is THE challenge for solar mobility pioneers. Our latest model is Stella Vie, a solar powered family car for 5 persons. It is the most efficient family car ever built. In October we will defend our world title in Australia. Last year, Solar Team Eindhoven designed โ€˜Stella Luxโ€™, the erergy positive family car, and won the Cruiser Class of the World Solar Challenge 2015. Our cars are built by a

team consisting of 21 top students of the Eindhoven University of Technology. Winning the World Solar Challenge is one of the goals, but not our main goal: our mission is to contribute to a sustainable future. We want to realize an innovative car which is ready for the market of tomorrow.

Kick-off day in Kenya!

Today we were at Amref International University for the official flag-off of our challenge across Kenya with Stella Juva. Alongside the flag-off, we had the chance to hear directly from healthcare workers about the challenges they face every day, and why solar-powered mobile healthcare matters so much in remote areas.

We heard presentations from the Country Director of Amref Health Africa, the Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands, and the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Energy, alongside a presentation from our own team. Every speaker highlighted the same message: strong collaboration between students, industry, and government is important when addressing societal problems.

Next up, we will drive our first kilometres towards our next stop in Naivasha. We cannot wait to get going!

Follow our journey as we make our way across Kenya. ๐Ÿš‘โ˜€๏ธ

In one week, we kick off our challenge in Kenya, testing Stella Juva in locations where the vehicle could be deployed in the future.

Across remote areas in Kenya, we will simulate healthcare scenarios to see how Stella Juva performs where it matters most. Here is what the journey looks like.๐Ÿ‘‡

1/5 ๐ŸŽค Official kick-off at Amref International University. We will showcase Stella Juva and dive into the challenges NGOs face on the ground, together with students, Amref representatives, and Dutch and Kenyan government officials.๐Ÿค

2/5 ๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธNext, we drive our first kilometres on public roads towards Naivasha, known for its stunning freshwater lake. Here, we will test Stella Juva for the first time on Kenya's varied off-road terrain.

3/5 ๐Ÿฉบ Two crucial days testing the medical capabilities of the vehicle. Working alongside Amref doctors, we will simulate how the ambulance could be used in the field with simulated patients., gathering data on how Stella Juva stacks up against ambulances currently in use.๐Ÿ“Š

4/5 After the medical tests, we shift our focus to endurance, with long driving days pushing our solar technology to its limits.๐Ÿ”‹๐Ÿ’ช

5/5 โ›ฐ๏ธThe finish line, after countless kilometres on- and off-road, we arrive at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, closing out our challenge in Kenya.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Pioneering doesn't always go according to plan.๐Ÿ”ง

About a week before our first test at the RDW(Dutch Vehicle Authority), our custom cut windscreen cracked, before it even made it into the car.

With no time to get a new one custom made, we had to think fast. The solution was to rework the frame of the car so we could fit an automotive grade window from an existing vehicle instead.

It may sound like a small adjustment, but every detail affects the aerodynamic performance of Stella Juva.

After a lot of work, the new windscreen fitted perfectly, and we successfully passed the test.

๐ŸŽ‰ Big news: Stella Juva is officially road-legal!

On 29 July, the RDW (Dutch Vehicle Authority) approved Stella Juva and gave her a Dutch license plate. That means the world's first solar-powered ambulance is now officially allowed to drive on public roads.

This milestone is the result of months of hard work, testing, and problem-solving by the entire team, and it brings us one step closer to bringing solar-powered healthcare to places that need it the most.
More about what is next soon! ๐Ÿ˜‰โ˜€๏ธ

Last week we hosted our Partner Production Day, and it was one to remember.

We kicked things off with a presentation covering our progress so far and what the exciting months ahead have in store.

But the real highlight? Our partners got their first glimpse of Stella Juva. Seeing their reactions made all the work this year worth it.โšก

The day wrapped up with a networking drink where our partners connected with each other, exchanged ideas, and shared their vision for Stella Juva.โ˜€๏ธ
