In the course of the years, we have meticulously restored quite a number of classic boxers. In the first year - I admit - we mainly did learn by trial and error. I also started to realize that patience, know-how, good parts and the right tools are key to a successful restoration project. This later resulted in setting up ‘Salis Parts’, our online shop for HQ spare parts and essential tools for BMW

Test device for valve springs. Springs lose their strenght over the years. Usually no problem for low revving engines, but on higher revvings engines it can lead to "valve float" causing loss of power and misfiring. An old R25/3 valve spring is compared to a new valve spring. Considerable difference.

Several samples of M-80 were manufactured, and they participated in competitions in the late 1940s (some remaining photographs bear evidence of this fact). In the summer of 1947 a famous racer Yevgueni Gringaut, the USSR Merited Master of Sports, set an absolute record on one of the M-80s: 172 km/h.
